So i have this reverse camera i'd like to mount and get some use out of. (see pic below)
Any suggestions on where i could mount it, (apart from on the number plate).
I'm pretty sure the number plate mounting bracket can be removed and i can adapt a bracket to mount anywhere.

you could mount it behind the bumper and have it poke through the tow bar tongue hole. You could even get a spare cover, mod it to suit the shape of the camera so it looks neat.

the vr-x doesn't have a tow bar hole cut out, good idea though if i had one. I thought about mounting it in the back window. Don't know much vision there would be from this position though.

I placed my camera facing downwards through the boot lip garnish thing. This enables the camera to be hidden as well as allowing a 180 deg view of the bumper line.
I used the mounting screws for the plate lamps to secure the camera. It remains completely hidden.

I had mine there, but I think it looks fugly so I took it off. Haven't worked out a better spot though.
I was thinking of drilling a hole through one of the letters on my number plate, and a corresponding hole in the bootlid, and mounting it so it would look though. Haven't decided yet though.

Thanks for all the ideas guys, much appreciated.
Also, those of you with the same camera as me. How do you like the infra red night vision?
I was rather impressed when testing.

if you're not to fussed using a key to open your boot then remove the key mechanism and have it poke out through the hole in the garnish.

I thought of like a flush mount pin hole idea but then i lose the infra red unless the hole doesn't cover the LED's. And im not keen on making a hole that large.
mcs_xi your camera must be small

Yes. I have a small camera :doubt:
But hey, it not the size, it what you can SEE with it. :D
I prefer this to Mohits as I can see the bumper line and can position the car accurately. It is a mirrored camera too so it is correct for the brain. Also, it does not have the LED night things. This does not bother me as I have Verada reverse lights in the boot lid so I can see anyway. It cost about $200 at the time but could be alot less now.

The camera will still be able to see IR light, it just wont have the LED's emmiting it. Your reverse lights will emmit IR light though so you should be fine.

This is what im thinkin, there is room in behind the boot garnish between the number plate lights.
Im looking at cutting a hole here and mounting the camera with the number plate bracket removed.

Hi Supre_t, I have just ordered the same camera and was thinking of putting it in the same place.
Can you tell me what you used to cut out the hole and what and where it screws into; also how and where the wires run etc. Thanks in advance.

First off when you pull off your boot garnish you will notice there is a bracket smack bang in the middle, you will have to remove this so there is room for the cam. I cut my bracket out with a stanly knife (its soft plastic).
When your marking out your hole to cut take your time, its a hard thing to measure (I spent 3 hours on the whole job to get it right). Once i had my square marked out i drilled the corners out and used a fret saw ( like a hacksaw with a tiny blade that can be set at any degree). My cut was 61mm wide, 8mm away from the boot lid and all the way to the back end of the garnish.
I mounted my cam with wire ties that wrap around the plastic that stick out the side of the cam, and they go through small holes i drilled behind the garnish. I had to drill a 1/2inch hole there also for the plugs and wires off the cam to fit through. This is a large drill and if you need to drill this large start small and take it a size or two at a time.
Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for the info Supra_t - doesn't sound too bad. Your installation looks factory, I hope I can emulate it.

i used some double sided tape, unscrewed one of my number plate lights, run the camera cables
- power
- video/wireless
through the light fixture, rescrewed it (soi it doesnt look like part of my numberplate is dark :) ) and just sticky it to the bottom lip of my car trunk, you get a good angle, camera isnt really visible coz the lip is depressed (slanting up on the inner lip) and i get a view of the edge of my bumper and out (no upper lip visible :) )
yeah the IR is wicked!
