hmmm, I'm confuzzled.
I'm looking for a pod filter so I can remove my stock air intake to make room for my WI reservoir. I've done a little searching on here and the intarwebs and I'm not finding all the info I need.
there's this http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=57-1500-1
http://kandn.com/images/m/57-1500-1.jpg
but it says it's for the 3.0L, not the 3.5L. of course, they probably use the same MAF/MAS so it might be a moot point.
but then I'm even more confuzzled by the prices... that 57-1500-1 is over $160US, however I've seen the same pic on certain websites here in AU selling it for less than $140AU.
can anyone confirm that the 57-1500-1 will work on the 3.5L and what sort of price you can get the filter AND MAF/MAS adapter for in AU?
cheers,

i have used it before, but took it of as i just wanted to run the stock air intake and box again..
i bought the kit from RPW, i can't remember but it was somthing like $140 + shipping i think.., and it DID NOT have anything that even resembled a bracket in it.. it was in the sealed K&N box with k&n 'security QC' sealed stickers..
i took it off, cleaned it (k&n filter recharge kit), and packed it in a plastic bag...
i have the adaptor plate (matt black cast ally), and a couple of ally brackets just quickly bent up to hold it..
u want it?? it's just sitting there doing nothing cleaned and oiled in the bag.. bracket's and plated hex head bolts etc etc ready to bolt on..

yes this filter will fit all EFI magnas, ie. 2.6, 3.0, and 3.5. as well as the 3000gt/gto (which to my understanding it was designed for)
i had a lot of trouble finding one of these, i tried autobarn first ("K&N don't make a pod filter for a magna, you should just get a commodore instead" as well as saying "K&N are way over priced, these TFI racing filters are just as good, and only $15" :bowrofl:
after giving up on local shops i emailed RPW, found they had a place in melbourne, then emailed them (completely different response to autobarn "we have 2 on the shelf, shall i write your name on one?" was like $140+postage. payed via netbank, showed up next day :D
POD Vs. PANEL................. honestly, who cares?? it's your car, do as you like

That pod would be sucking some pretty awesome hot air straight from the engine bay.

I agree, that cant be very beneficial having the pod sitting there without some sort of CAI. I think if your not going to do a proper CAI, just use the Panel Filter replacement, just as effective.

and to those who have commented, that was one of the reasons why i took it out.. in favour of the stock setup.. i was going to do some sort of ducted air box... but just look at how long it took me to finally tig up a nice 18 deg tapered merge collector for the pacemakers i modified  ...

Hey Wookster:
I use this setup but went the whole hog and used a kit but a MAF loom extension made by Lee and Thomas to move the pod down under the bumper. VERY effective and yeilds heaps of the space in the LH side of the engine bay. Can send pics if you want em

yeah, that's my plan. going to grab some piping and drop the MAF and pod down by the left hand fog light recess. I wasn't going to leave the pod in engine bay haha!
just have to make sure there's not a significant pressure drop in the piping after the MAF.
pic could be cool!

Its a bit more expensive and you would have to import it but it looks hot and its a K&N product made for the eclipse i believe its what TZABOY use to run.
This is it on his car and off it.

What diameter is that c.a.i. ?, looks good, but terrible price.

I would say it would be 2.5 or 3 inch no bigger that price is expensive but it also includes the pod filter and adapter so really only about $250 for the intake itself

Its 3inch, i nearly had a bulk lot of them coming when the Au dollar was good against the greenback, i hesitated and it dropped like a stone the following day

Also brad Sif you would give this away, the eclipse 3.0? or the 3.5 fits, whatever the part no if you want to order it from Rocket Industries is KN57-5505 and will bolt in for magnas 3.0 and 3.5, also be prepared to sit down after hearing the AU price for it

just out of sheer morbid curiosity.....
why wouldn't you just get this pipe made? it's only 3-4 bends, and the pod filter kit spoken about previously..
a tig welded stainless intake with the fitting, and brackets would be no where near as expensive.. and ofcourse you could make it fit your car better..
you would need to get the extension loom anyway.. plus thos brackets look dodgey and weak brackets are not ment to be held on with hose clamps!
PVC painted if you're not after a show car look and would'nt a larger diameter be better? Cheap too.

PVC doesn't like heat.. but that hasn't stopped ppl using it before..
but i was suggesting a nice TIG welded stainless or ally intake as any decent fab shop would not even run into $200... jsut depends on the materials used.. ally ofcourse is a little dearer than stainless..
