Is there a trick to getting these things off? I leveled the garnish off from the inside and the left and right garnish came off ok with only 1 clips broken, but the top garnish I broke all of them.. and they are $8 ea!

They go brittle and self destruct when you remove the trim - can't be helped.
I don't replace the clips. I make sure the trim doesn't get bent when I remove them. Then use silastic to fill the gap and hold the trip with masking tape. Cleanup with turps when set.

Dont use any silicone based adhesive on body work ffs. It is acidic and in time you will have rust every where
I ALWAYS replace the clips then if you need to get the trim off again one day, you can
Some windscreen places use the urathane to stick them on but good luck ever getting it off again in one piece

Dont use any silicone based adhesive on body work ffs. It is acidic and in time you will have rust every where you can get a neutral cure silicone, but I wouldn't be using it to put windscreens in, if you use silicon on something, you find it very hard to ever get anything to stick there again, without a LOT of surface prep.
Some windscreen places use the urathane to stick them on but good luck ever getting it off again in one piece generally if polyurethane has been used to bond clips in place, just about the only way they coming off is broken!

knowing them, they will remove the trim, curse and swear at the clips, break half of them getting them off, replace half of the ones they broke meanwhile telling you 'she'll be right mate!' then use Sikatack Move to bond the new windscreen in place. If you lucky they will use Sika Activator to prep the bond area around the windscreen frame but usually they just give it a wipe with their 'you beaut O'briens Glass Cleaner'. Then if you really lucky, they will remember to clean any polyurethane off your car, before it cures. Uncured, piece of the proverbial to remove, once cured, mechanical means is the only way its coming off.
But you will be able to drive away in 1 hour, as opposed to 4 :D

Ok, all done, got the window clips thrown in so that saved me about $80. :D
The installer commented how the bottom edge of the windscreen wasnt sealed very well, apparently the previous guy who put in Pilkington glass didnt remove the bottom garnish and just held it up and slid the new windscreen in which meant it didn't seal properly.
This is what he bloke from O'briens did in about 45mins:
1. Cut old windscreen out
2. Stripped remaining glue down to about 2-3mm
3. Prepared new windscreen by removing any factory residue
4. Coated any areas on the frame where metal was showing to allow new glue to stick
5. Spread glue activator on the edge of the new windscreen
6. Applied glue to frame
7. Applied windscreen to frame.
8. Cannot drive for 60mins.
