After successfully replacing my rear engine mount last weekend I thought I might as well go on and to the front mount as it is a bit torn. I got a price from Mitsubishi $188.

Obviously I'm now thinking about one from REPCO. They offer rubber only mounts that you press into your original casting. Has anyone done this? How difficult? I thought I could use some detergent and an engineer's vice to press it in, maybe even a big hose clamp to compress the rubber first.

Any info?

Im thinking 2 points towards the clamp idea. Small ones and trim the edges. In time remove them!!!!!!

You will need a proper press to get the old one out and new one in

I strongly suggest you heat the alloy section (only) with a heat source being careful to heat it up from outside only. This will allow it to expand and assist in getting the old one out

Same goes getting the new one in, heat up the alloy section and then press in the new mount

Once you have the mount, can you let us all know the brand and part number also?

If you think that heating and a proper press will be required then I think I will go for the full mount.

My Repco have the Kelpro brand mounts. As an aside, I noticed that Kelpro offer only an automatic rear mount for both manual and automatic cars, which was why I went for a genuine mount for the rear in my manual car. The Kelpro rear mount was ridiculously soft. I will be inspecting the Kelpro front mount very carefully when I go into the store this afternoon.

Be wary with the after market mounts as they often fall apart quickly.

The Kelpro are usually ok

The manual mounts are a solid mount where auto have cut outs, generally I usually replace all mounts with manual ones as they are stronger

Yeah the Kelpro rear mount had the cutouts in it, yet they were selling it as a replacement part for a manual car.

OK, we've been through the Kelpro motor mount book down at Repco and guess what? Kelpro don't make a mount suitable for a manual 2nd gen 3.0 litre. All the mounts have the slots in them intended for the auto cars. Interestingly they are all listed as intended for "auto/man".

So, it's genuine only unless you get some made by a third party.

188 bucks....

There is always the sikaflex option?

Yeah that 100 dollar saving is pretty damn tempting... Might be worth it as an experiment at least - see how long it lasts.

I guess if you keep oil off it it'll last as long as the others.

Guys, how can I get the rubber bit into the rest of the mount if I don't have a proper press?
Is there anywhere that can do it for me for a reasonable price?

That appeals to me. Cheap and messy to do. A real win/win in my eyes! lol

I was looking at 3rd gen engine mounts at the wreckers today. Big mount, but not much rubber, lots of air space. I would buy one of those and fill it up with sikaflex, if I ever needed one.
