Hey people lately ive been getting a loud ticking noise from my engine, it doesnt happen all the time and it doesnt really matter weather its hot or cold, it will tick on and off whenever it wants to regardless of me reving or not, it only used to happen for short periods at a time but now is happening more often and for longer, can anyone out there help me?

It seems to be a general thing tr's and older models do. tick. I dont know the answer to why, someone here will surely. Tappets or something? dunno..

timebomb?
Sounds like you got worn tappets (or however they are spelt)
Usually the ticking will go away when there is sufficient oil running through your system.
Check your oil.

Get the timing belt done too.
The ticking is probably what has been suggested above so I wont bother repeating it...just get the timing belt done too.

Ummm KB 2.6 has chain, if he wants to change the belt he will have to buy a a V6 magna first. lol good to have a dig at you mate lol
The lash adjusters are what is causing your problems i would say, are not too hard to change, if you timing chain rattles at start up or idle would also recommend changing this too.

Tappets.
It's an easy fix with the 2.6. Run some gunk remover in your oil. I used a Nulon product that stopped the noise intermittently. Run the stuff until you next oil change. I then found that the oil I was using was not suitable for the car.
I therefore highly recommend using Castrol GTX 3 engine oil and not some cheap cruddy stuff.
This cured the tappet noise in my new engine after 3000KM. :dancin:
If the engin eis worn and the tappert noise has been going for a long while the tappets wear on the face that touches the valve. New tappets in this case.

Speaking of oils and 4cyl 2nd gen magnas, heres my two cents...
Penrite HPR40 25W-70 (yes thats right - 70) is the oil that I use at the moment has been quite good. Keeps thick at operating temp which I think that 2nd gen 4 cyl's need when they have done some k's. Mines done 266,000 approx and after trying different oils (about 6 so far)this one so far has given good results. Limits all engine noises and keeps any smoke to a real minimum. Dont forget to use a good oil filter too. And the good thing about it is that it comes in a 5 litre bottle - great for our magnas which need about 4.5.
You can get it from supercheap for 25ish dollars, i think.

You get it in a kit, lash adjusters plus timing and counter blance chain, set you back around 150. Ive heard u can get just the adjusters for like 130.... so....
On oils, i just changed my oil, TN with 177,000 on it with that 15w40 Valvoline engine armour, seems to be doing it stuff, not ticking,m but time may tell :D Also my laat run gave great economy, but that may be because i changed the timing on it (still not right damnit) i got 8.2 l/100k on the highway.
