View Full Version : Pics of the glovebox and engine bay side?
Hey guys,
I know alot of you are using a grommit in the engine bay to feed 4ga cables, I'm helping out Owen today with him amp install and I need to know where this grommit is, and where it comes out...
Anybody got some pics of this?
Thanks,
Dean

Pretty sure you can't see from inside when the glovebox is out, done a few audio installs in 3rd gens and basically you can see the grommet from the firewall, best thing to do is to just keep poking the wire through, until someone can feel it coming out on the other side mate
Well I found a couple of empty rubber bits allowing access to the inner wheel arch, but I don't see a way I can get it through without taking the wheel arch lining off...

Its on the passenger side about 30cm down from the top near the coolant and power trans fluid pipes. It stand out like a sore thumb due to all the wires coming out wrapped in electrical tape. It's more toward the centre console than the door side of the glove box. I have never had to take the glove box out of a 3rd gen to fit a power wire.

I just run my power cable for my amp today (8G) was a mission. I'm glad i didn't run the 4G i had, i used the grommit on the passanger side and had a really hard time finding it behind the dash. Then took ages getting it through the harness rails into the boot (had to pull the back seat out aswell) but glad its all back together and the cable is poking into the boot ready to go.
Not looking forward to running the RCA's down the other side

if you pull the carpet up a bit you will se a white plastic thingy held down with 2 10mm nuts on the passenger side towards the transmition tunnel. its the same one i use for all my magna installs
Well I found it and got the wire through (4g slid right though, didnt even have to remove the cover), had a bit of an accident beforehand though (involving a drill), I won't go into details... Thanks guys.

dont know why your using a drill around wires but any ways
I couldn't see the wires, started drilling a bit of plastic... it wasnt a bit of plastic, it was the cooling unit, got sprayed in the face with AC gas :-/ Learnt my lesson, sometime soon its pretty much a whole days work to fix it :-/

well guys you dont need to pay him out about it.. it sounds like he has made a genuine mistake... every one of us on AMC has made a mistake before...
if i was him and i was trying to get that massive cable through the firewall and saw abit of plastic that looked like a gromit... i would probably drill it out and see where it led me
so guys please dont pay him about and sorry about the rant

You should start a "Who isn't allowed to touch my car" list, and add a certain someone to it after this :bowrofl:

It's ok, I'm used to it :P Atleast I'm man enough to admit mistake, fix it up and take responsibility.
After this, the drill stays in the box!

Mate, it was an honest mistake, it happens
I have done plenty of stupid things with cars, learning the hard way is a part of life

I believe you have to, to feed the wire through. 5 min job.
