I just started installing cabling for my Kenwood 4 channel amp to run front and rear speakers. Im looking for some good ideas on where to mount the amp.

Im planning on mounting it in the boot just not sure how.

make up a beauti panel for one of the side walls in the boot

Easiest is to side mount it behind one of the tail-lights.

Other than that, you can make a false floor, mount it in the bootlid, under a passenger seat etc

i went with under the pass seat, then you can run all the cables under the center consol to the HU and down the door trim to the speakers.

just keep the pass seat out while you fine tune the amp.

under the parcel shelf. used 3 countersunk bolts to mount an MDF board to the child hooks, which are also holding the amp earths between the shelf and the board. then mounted the amps upside down on it.. neat and out of the way

Some amps don't like being upside down.

Had a small kenwood 2 channel installed in 1993 upside down under the shelf for like 13 years and was FINE
Under seat is a PAIN, rear passengers then have no-where to put there feet and yeah PITA
Go for boot mounted, make up a panel for the side, some L brackets from bunnings, and hide under carpet.

It could be mounted on MDF under the parcel shelf suspended by threaded rod. Thats on my agenda.
Wouldn't advise upside down.

how bigs the amp? what amp etc.. make a panel to sit in the spare tyre well, inside the spare tyre, and mount the amp to that. as if it never existed.

The Kenwood i'm putting in will fit just nicely inside the spare wheel.

Im wondering how the amp will go not having much room to breathe

Will it get too hot??

Sorry to thread steal but mount the amp onto a sub box. would that be a fail?

Ers

Quite possibly.

Not many subs like being mounted on a sub box.

EDIT: LOL

Not many amps like being mounted on sub boxes :P

Everyone's a comedian these days lol

im actually yet to see an amp fail from being mounted on a box, with exception to a boss amp that had some solder fall off the pcb for no apparent reason. mounting to the box just tend to look ugly, and if you dont have a sub, then you dont have a box to mount it to :)

you could always make a sub box and put a picture of a sub on it, then you'll have a sub box to mount an amp too :P

I've always mounted my amps on the box, worked for me :D although in this case i dont have a box as im trying to put a system together that sounds resonable without a sub.

My amp is now mounted inside the spare, anyone had any overheating issues when mounting an amp like this?

Seems to be ok so far. :D

Im just worried that the subs magnets might cause the amp some damage. Can anyone nay or yay this?

I highly doubt that the subs magnet would cause damage to.....itself?:bowrofl:

Do you mean damage to the amp? i dont think theres much in an amp that could be affected by magnets, i know plenty of people that have had amps mounted to their box and never had a problem.

Anyone got some ideas on how to mount a sub and amp that's easy to remove if needed? I got a TE, prob is it's on gas and I got a 15" sub. So basically where ever I mount the sub, it's going to be over the spare wheel. I was thinking of putting the amp on the side wall, and making some kind of rail on both sides of the sub with some some kind of latch into the floor. That way can just un-clip it, take the wires out and pull the sub out. Anyone else got some ideas?

Its more so the flexing of a sub box that can cause damage, rather than the magnet of the sub, or the vibrations.

All depends on the amp, and the box.

You wouldnt happen to know if a AMP(MRP-500) and twin Type -s 12" would damage eachother?
