The price is because of the km's. Give him a call, check for full service history etc...

If it's *just* had its service then the timing belt has been done 14,000kms late. Definitely check the service history.

he said it has got full service history... and he said the timing chain was done at 195000 but yeah.. im really thinking this might be a good one to snap up.. just depends on what the body is like i guess and of course how it runs ahha

With those kind of KM's inspect the paint VERY closely, I missed the front bumper on mine, first day I washed it the paint peeled off the front bar! Mine was at 220,000km.

Easy way to get burnt here mate. Be very careful. Check the service books and ask for receipts of the works done, including the timing belt. Then ring the place that the belt got done at and make sure it was actually done there. Also, check the condition of the engine oil, if it's black then it hasen't been changed lately.

Check the auto transmission oil - this is very important. The car must be up to running temp, or close to it to be able to check the auto transmission oil. 224,000kms still on the original gearbox is a long time for these auto boxes, so make sure the fluid is a light pink colour. If it even has a hint of brown, or the oil smells burnt (make sure you smell it - it should smell like cherries) keep well clear as the gearbox will be stuffed.

Also check the power steering hose about half way down the firewall on the drivers side - look for black soot build up, if there is build up, then you'll be up for a new power steering rack ($1200) Listen to it on idle for tappet noise. Also make sure you know what size tyres that model should have, and what load rating. Make sure the tyres are all ok and are the right size and load rating.

Other things like exterior quality and interior quality is all up to you wether it's acceptable or not. Your main concern should be the mechanical side of things because if it's not been looked after, it will cost you a lot of money to get it back to proper running condition - trust me, I know.

I wouldn't be paying that for it either, with those sort of kms well under $5k is what you should be paying. It's only a series 1 TJ so it didn't pickup climate control either (obviously not a necessity, but a nicety).

As above, check the auto box and prepare to walk away. As a (sort of) guide, my sister recently picked up a TJ S1.5 Advance (got climate, upgraded stereo, upgraded dash cluster, nice spoiler and 17" alloys) in good nick for $5800 with 7mths rego and 138000kms on the clock. Obviously this is a sports, so gets the parras, fogs and 5sp auto, but it's not worth as much IMO.

when you are looking at an auto imo a 5 speed is worth a lot more. Being able to take off almost as fast a manual and heaps quicker than the 4 speed the 5 speed really comes into its own. Everyone wants parras and fogs as well anyway. Everyone changes the stereo so that aint worth anything. It will have the sports suspension and it should have had replaced shocks struts, but you will have to find that out. A rear sway bar makes a big differance in handling. I think $5600 is a good price to start with...he'll take less. Do your checks as listed above

hardly when you can sufficiently take off at a decent speed in a 4spd.

The limit is only 50-100....u dont need anything special to take off faster than your avg person.

Just be careful that 5sp doesn't break from mistreatment and old age!!

It depends on what sort of rush your in and how long you think you'll keep it ....that's not a bad price for the amount of car your getting. But there are better cars around with less km's but they cost more.......so does quality.

Your going to have to allow some money for mechanicals anyway I keep aside $1200 a year some years I don't need it some years I do.

who said anything about it on the streets:nuts: this post of yours is is really helpful info for the guy....and besides is this the sort of comment you feed Tufftr, Blackbeard, Jasonvrx whenever they are talking about mods...wake up to yourself.

If you change the oil in the box every 20-30000km it will last ages

But most don't do that, hence why with a car with that many kms you have to be careful, and should probably budget for something to go wrong with the auto. Would be pricier to fix the 5sp auto I'd suspect since they aren't as common as your average Magna 4sp.

The car I bought, the auto transmission had been serviced as per the book (apparently, but who knows, the wanker lied about other stuff too) and the fluid was filthy. It really needs to be serviced every 15,000kms.

The easiest thing is too assume the worse unless its log booked or you can talk to the local mechanic. When I get a new car I spend some cash ....do a coolant flush and check all the cooling system , brake fluid flush and oil change with filter. Get my mechanic to give me a service schedule , change the oil and filter again after 5000km's. Flush the cars fuel systems and injectors by using BP Ultimate.

With an auto of this age I'd be tempted to have the auto flushed as well .....you just have to be realistic and budget for it when you buy the car. Add $500 for first up repairs and service. Of course you can save if you can do it yourself.

If your going to buy a car you might as well feel that its not going to break down a few weeks later because you and the previous owner skimped on servicing and repairs.

It's good fun anyway babying your new purchase....mine get washed and vacuumed every week for awhile....lol

:hand: how is my post non helpful - i added that a 4spd is quite suffiecient on the streets - whether or not you meant it.

i really had a go in at you in my post didnt i? - i was simply adding what my experience's were/are with a 4spd....on the streets. if this guy wants to race with his 5spd manual/tippy (because they can take off almost as fast?) i will directly refer him to yourself so can can update him with the daily happenings of your ego.

sorry sir, i promise to never ever quote one of yours posts again, the wrath just overwhelms me.
