Hi all,

Just bought my first car (been riding a motorbike for 4 years) and its a 1999 magna solara, very happy so far. At first I was certain that it was a TH, since it was manufactured June 1999 and when i bought it, it was advertised as TH. However i recently got the letter saying that the registration had successfully been turned over to my name and it seems it is registered as a TF. Is there anyway to find out exactly what series I have as i think the TF and TH switchover was around 1998-1999 so it might still be possible that it's a TF. Just want to know for later down the track if i need to get parts etc

Cheers

P.S I did search but couldn't find anything.

Vin number will tell all.

You will have the letters TH or TF in there

IF is a TF is only a 3.0 if a TH may be 3.0 or 3.5

Do you have either a Trip computer above the air vents (TH)? or just a Speed Alert (TF) also, I think that the TH Solaras got the twin tone paint and power windows.

Yeah I have the trip, fuel consumptions, range to empty etc above the vents and its a 3.5L engine so must be a TH, Thanks for the quick replies.

Is it cheaper to register a TF? I'm guessing it might be due to the smaller engine. Anyone else registered their car as a lower series? I'm wondering if i should change it in a few months when I have to register it again or just leave it.

Cheers.

Mate, to be 100% check your Vin number.

Your engine
if starts with
6g72 is a 3.0
6g74 is a 3.5

Not sure in NSW but in Vic engine size means nothing

Whatever it is, sounds illegal. I doubt you can make a change to a vehicle model that has been associated with a particular VIN since first registration, can't see why it would be cheaper anyway.

Yep, just checked the VIN number, TH it is! And its 3.5 litre too. Yeah I am in QLD, just checked and its $380 renewal for 12 months for 6 cylinder.

Thanks everyone.

Like matty said, it's only based off number of cylinders, not engine capacity.

It'd be hell-dodgy to register it as a TF, as the VIN wouldn't match, and you'd have lots of fun with insurance.
