hey guys, my brother has joined the club and got a 1995 V300, KS. anyway it has no badges on it and we were wondering what model variant it is. it has twin piston calipers on the front, and vented rear discs, ABS and the power/hold button. cheers for any info. also theres a few of these at my local pick a part, would the second gen twin pot calipers fit my third gen diamante KE??? cheers.

no the 2nd gen calipers wont fit the 3rd gen, not by a long shot, you would need bolt relocators and a spacer as well so the unit sat flush on the rotor so it didnt rub.

im not sure what u meant by variant?

in aus from memory the only car to come with twin pots in the second gens were the KS Veradas and Sportswagons

I think he's asking is it an Ei or Xi. If its an Ei the paint work will be all one colour, the Xi is two tone, silver below the bump strips and whatever colour you choose up top. The wheels are also different, Ei have 5 spoke alloys, Xi have bazillion spoke alloys. :P

Then inside theres gloss woodgrain (Xi) vs matt (Ei), and I think the seats are slightly different and so on!

cool thanks mate that cleared it up!! hey i was at the pick a part today and there was a 3rd gen diamante with twin pot fronts and vented rears, the front discs looked different to mine, has anyone done a conversion to the twin pot from the single. mines a 97 sei diamante and the donor is a 96 diamante , was a gvti or something like that, had three letters then two more lol. any ideas, how much improvement is two small pots over one large one really??

Get some pics up of your bro's KS......

The xi came with suede seats although not all of them were two tone on the outside.

Also came with stereo controls on the steering wheel

Robsss,

have a search in the 3rd Gen forum or Tech Torque forum for 'brake upgrade' or 'twin piston' etc - there have been a lot of threads and some good information (I been interested to do this upgrade, but also confused at times). I hope to "insert name of Deity here" I get the following correct .......

Over this side of the pond, only Ralliart Magna's got twin-pot fronts - until the AWD models were introduced. Ralliart rears can fit a FWD, but rotors can only be bought genuine (needless to say at huge cost). AWD rears are problematical - "hat height" differs, and AWD have different handbrake set-up probably being the reason for this.

I have the impression that quite a few members have done at least the front twin-pot upgrade on FWD Magnas of 3rd Gen. Search Group-Buys too - there was one I missed when my registration didn't proceed correctly for a few months which was for Front upgrade and more recently a thread was still open about a Rear Upgrade group buy.

In the end, I have elected to try a simpler/cheaper upgrade: standard "single-pot" sized Brake rotors, but a slotted aftermarket version for front - suggested to get RDA brand. With this I am changing to QFM "HPX" pads both front and rear (Queensland Friction Materials) - collected the pads from courier depot today (one set for 2nd car on back-order) and will collect the slotted front discs for both cars in the morning - YAY !!

If the price for the twin-pot fronts and ventilated rears is tempting, it may be a "good get" - try to get compliance plate details and VIN on the donor-car, so you can source replacement parts such as pads and rotors. Read the threads that come up, esp about AWD models having different/incompatible "hat height" on rears.

EDIT: Crap - forgot to point out - its a good upgrade because rotors are larger and pads larger. So be aware of that when buying parts. Remember too with larger rotors, ensure there is room for your wheels to fit over larger rotors, and you may need to modify/adjust/trim the dust shields which are "behind/inboard" from the brake rotors.

Few incorrects here, first up, the heat shields dont need to be modified if you put ralliart/awd/380 calipers and rotors on. They fit behind a 16inch rim no issues and thin walled 15inch rims with no issue. Getting pad part no's is simple, just ask and you shall recieve.

Also look into the 380 conversion which is 2 calipers (resonably cheap brand new from mitsi) 2 rotors (i suggest DBA 4000) pads DB1778 (only bendix and genuine atm i think) and 2 hoses (genuine 380 hoses fit) Easy conversion and about 800-1000 depending on the rotor type you get.

i cant spend much was interested because the one at pick a part is fwd, a GVTI. it has different rotors to mine and twin pots, plus vented rears. its not a ralliart. ill measure up and see wat happens. they will be cheap as from there which is why im keen and the discs are in good nick no grooves or pitting.
