Page 7 of this weeks Drive magazine (in todays AGE (Melbourne)) has a little sidebar that states"

Improving power and torque by replacing a car's engine-managementchip and remapping its software might appeal to some car buyers - and some dealers are prepared to facilitate it as an after-market addition - but in Victoria it is (essentially) illegal.
Thought someone might be interested.

I reckon it's EPA's regulations as it disrupts the emissions of the vehicles :(

VicRoads told me that they're only illegal (as with any intake/exhaust mods) if they alter the cars emission levels.

You can get you car emissions tested (dunno who, where or how much though) and if it passes then your modification is ok. Similar to an engineers certificate.

I asked the NSW RTA this question before.

The question is not only about emmissions but also the fact the maps are adjustable.

The EPA knows we can tune to run "legally" then when around the corner grab the second map and go like hell lol

What they do not realise is our cars although "retuned" make less pollution than a lot of the old ****ters out there that have not been tuned for so long the last receipt in the glove box was in pounds and shillings

True, I asked the RTA guy that question about them being adjustable and he didnt have a straight answer, you just reminded me of that, thanks :) lol

yer, im not too far out of line.

dallas had made sure (and his legal responsibility) that it meets/as close as possible emissions and modifications. hence why we are now gonna get a engineers cert for all the work we do for the girl.

as for each year inspections, nah, once every 3. :D oh, and i know the bush coppers, so that solves that problem! lol
