jus wondering if anyone knows off hand the area between the rear strut towers in the boot and the height in the boot under the parcel shelf??

Off the top of my head, you have roughly 96cm strut to strut useable space.

To the top of the parcel tray, depends which top you mean.

Against the back of the seats you have something like 40cm, to the top of the parcel tray is around 48cm, however, there's a couple things that protrude on the RHS (atleast in my TE) that make useable space around 45cm.

These are rough figures, since my install is in - im not taking it out to measure for the 30th time lol
