hey guys,

Just come back from holidays, and went to take the car out and had some problems. Before it warmed up, i couldnt get any power if i was on more than 1/5th throttle above about 40kms in second gear. Once it warmed up it was better, but still battling up hills if i pushed it hard in 3rd gear.

Took it out today to better try and understand the problem, and when between 40-80kms (still warming up) it produced a little power for a bit, (2-3 seconds), then would thud back and be sluggish for another couple of seconds. Every time it kicked from no power to a little power, it would make a fairly loud knocking sound.

Im sorry, its hard to describe. Ive got it booked into the mechanics, im just wondering if anyone knows what it might be?

sounds like it is detonating from the sound you describe, but what has me buggered is it would do it more when hot then cold one would think?,Bad fuel last fill up maybe?,rotor button, plugs.leads etc,Last thing i could think of is 02 sensor,my brother had one and did what you decribed and we changed everything spark and fuel related, only to find out i was the o2 sensor!

A common problem is with the distributor low tension wiring where the weather seal perishes and allows the entry of moisture - this alters the timing of the spark

Take it straight to a good auto-electrician and he will replace the seal and clean up any water damage to the circuit board
