Hey guys, i'm in the process of taking the head off this TR http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=63679

However i can't seem to locate the TDC marker that allows me to line it all up. I'm not sure where it's supposed to be honestly, i tried the service manual and gregory's and didnt get much help. I took the mount off to get a better look but still nothing. If you need pictures to guide me i can supply those within the day.

Thanks for the help,
Matias

Have a look here http://www.lisho.net/?page_id=3

It's the factory manual in PDF format (adobe acrobat reads it, also a free download) and it'll give you everything you need to do the job :D

I've been using it however i feel its very vague as it assumes the reader knows what theyre doing (this is my first time working on an engine). I'll have another look this week and take some pics, if i still have trouble i'll put em up and maybe someone can point it out to me.

Matias

there is another way of finding no1. tdc.....
pull the rocker cover off and rotate the engine watching the valves on cyl no. 4 just as the exhaust closes and intake opens ( the valves are rocking) no.1 will be at tdc compression stroke....

To properly find it, do the above on number 4 and number 1 will be about to fire. The crank pulley will also have the mark in line with the TDC mark on the timing marks.

Use a screwdriver down the plug hole when you think you have top dead centre. Jiggle the crank back and forth until the screwdriver is as high as it can be. This is an old trick to find TDC and helps you check that the timing marks on the pulley and front case are accurate.

Thanks for the help guys, a friend came over today and helped me out, the marker was there i just wasn't looking. The excessive grease, dirt and fading didn't help though! So now the only thing i'm dreading is putting it all back together :bowrofl: !
