What is difference between Sports/VRX suspension and Advance/Solara/Executive? I realise some Sports have sway bar at rear. Is it only the springs and shocks that are stiffer and better quality? I assume bushes are the same. Ground clearance is the same on all models. I have a rear sway bar on my car (Whiteline adjustable), so when I replace shockies, if I fit same springs as Sports and Konis or bilstein should have handling equivalent to Sports. I ahve no interest in lowering the car, but better handling would be nice. Is front sway bar different?
All Sports and VR-X models got a rear sway bar. All models onwards from TL got one anyway.
The springs in the Sports models are slightly lower, and probably have a higher poundage rating. Bushes probably the same but cant confirm. You dont have go for a lowered spring with aftermarket, pretty sure Kings sell a spring for the Magna with higher poundage rate and also progressively wound design. Coupling these with Koni's or Bilsteins will give a nice sporty ride. To be honest though, you should look at the King SP springs. They drop the ride about 20mm i believe, but give an even sportier feel, probably due to lowering the centre of gravity and having a higher poundage rating

I reckon the best bet is Kings SPs.
I originally fitted lows to my AWD.
In my opinion, although looking very good lower, is really too low for the best geometry and handling over undulating roads.
Often could bottom the front suspension out on bumps, especially on hard turns, roundabouts where there is a bump in the road as well. This is dangerous.
Fitted new SP's a couple of weeks ago, fronts were in the new stronger BHP spring steel.
Lovely - yes higher than lows, but lower than the original set up.
Ride is much improved as I am not hitting the bump stops.
Add in a good set of new shock absorbers with more damping and you will find that this set up transforms the car.

I have lows fitted and have not once hit the bumpstops. This is with KYB shocks

Not trying to hijack the thread but instead of staring a new one, I will post here as it is applicable.
Got a TF sports, front shocks need replacing and so do the bump stops.
My mechanic has a deal with Peddars where he sends the whole assembly to them, they refit with new shocks and send it back.
Pedders claim unless it is a Ralliart or TJ - TW AWD all shocks are same for TE, TF, TJ, TL. This can be seen on their website as all fall under one category.
You can opt for Sports ones or Comfort ones
Including bump stops, shocks & all associated labour, Sports one coem to $700 for front pair & Comfort ones (which are the ones on the car they claim) $550 for front pair
What are your thoughts guys?
Thats hella expensive. You can get KYB's and King SP Springs from Phillcom off here for $650 delivered front AND back. Installation you are looking at $250-300.

Is Spring change a mandatory when shocks are being changed? Especially so if you do not want to alter the ride height.

thats a no.
Sorry, going to hijack a bit.
Is there a point in time/age where you should change springs? My TF is 197k's old now and I'm thinking while the dampers are OK (Monroe GT's, ~30k km's old), the springs possibly aren't. It's partly a safety quesiton and partly a time to lower question.
Could I safely combine these Kings SP's and Monroe dampers if I wanted to spend less? Already up for 4 new tyres and change driveshafts this year already, would like to get another 12 months out of the Monroe's if I could.

Slightly wrong there.
Springs do wear out eventually, anything from around 160k onward the spring will start to sag, but depends on where and how you drive it as well.
Example, in the WB (yes i know) the front springs had 237k on them and used to scrub with the 8 inchers on there, put new springs in (same height) and no scrubbing. also brought the height back up to even again with the rear.

yes but your shocks would've been changed a couple of times by then.......o.p. asked if you change springs when ever you change shocks,is how I understood it.

In that method No
But the poster below asked when to change springs and he stated he had 197,XXX on his car, so it was a double pronged answer.

Both of you are making sense & both of you are correct.
To sum it up, one does not have to change springs when the shocks are changed but if the car has done close to 200k, it is worth investigating if the springs have sagged & if they need replacing.
Now where in Sydney West can i go to get the suspension checked and get the shocks/springs replaced if required?
Or should I order through Philcom but then any recommendations on installers?
Edit. I went to the KYB site, which are the shocks many people here talk about, but they are the manufacturers & only their distributors are mentioned, who are NGK spark plugs...

Yes. NGK distrubute them but you cannot buy from them direct, philcomm, supercrap, ricebarn, and ripco all sell them as well. Hit up Cybermonkey i have no idea where in Sydney he is but should be able to reccomend someone.
Binxx, check out my comment regarding installation in this thread http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65310
