Have your handbrake looked at......

Could be dragging brakes, or worn out wheel bearings.
When you're driving along, slowly, and you can hear the sound, pull the handbrake enough to slow the car, but not enough to stop it. Do it again with the foot brakes. If, doing that, the sound disappears, then it's the brakes.
If it's still there, it's likely that the wheel bearings are worn.

I had this prob a while ago on and off for about 3 months. I was and still am convinced that my mech adjusted the hadbrake too tightly, but he was certain it was that there was not enough anti squeal on the brake pads. Either way would get both looked at

whats involved if it IS a wheel bearing?
sounds identical to my problem and mine is almost definately handbrake. In the event it is bearing related, then I believe they are a non-servicable part. Although the back hubs may be different to front...

whats involved if it IS a wheel bearing?
From memory the hub on the rear end is an enclosed unit, and is completely replaced.
The front is a bunch of oil seals and a bearing unit that's pressed in and out.

If it's a terrifying screech and sounds like your wheels are about to fall off...
... look for a rock or something trapped between the disc & the brake sheild (Tinny thing).

I was up the Blue Mountains one time, 3 stock magnas one behind the other drove past me, all of them with distinctive rubbing sound from the back wheel :bowrofl:

Sorry for digging up an old grave here guys, but I know for certain my right rear wheel bearing is cactus, and tried searching through the entire search engine for info on the rear hub assembly and whether or not it is possible to get a bearing kit for the rear hubs that can be replaced by a workshop using pressing equipment, or if I am going to need the entire hub assembly replaced. I drive a TH magna sedan 3.5L auto fwd. Before any E-mechanical engineers decide to jump in and try and ask for symptoms and suggest that this is a misdiagnosed problem, Ive had known that the bearing was on its way out for a while, scraping, comes and goes, but now the noise is embarrassingly loud. At first i thought the rear pads were well worn to bare metal, or the metal disc cover may have been rubbing on the back of the rotor, so i removed the wheel, took the caliper off, rotated the wheel, disgusting grinding sound that, plate cover well clear of the back of the rotor. As i tried moving the wheel assembly around to see for play, plenty of axial and radial movement which from there, I knew the bearing was gone.
So all I need to know is,
1. Is there a bearing kit available for the rear hubs, and if so is it possible to replace without the need of a press machine etc (no need to drop off at a workshop).
2. If #1 answer is a no, then I need to have the entire hub replaced, so can anyone get me a part number to quote to a spare parts place as i dont want to pay mitsu genuine prices. I need the answer ASAP so I can get this sorted as today is a Sunday and I need my car for work.
Thanks for any help I receive. Love the forum and hoping I can be helpful to others in the future.

Welcome to the testosterone farm . . . err forum, Warbzy.
Rear bearing is part of the hub, needs to be replaced complete. Remove hub ---> throw away -----> buy new one (wreckers?) -----> instal ------> drive away.
Should be plenty of good ones at the wreckers. Not a common fail item.
The hub itself is quite tiny, the bearing outer race is part of the hub, hence the hub needs replacing.
Remember though once you take off the wheel the rotor is free to wobble and the brake shoes/drum can scrape, really need remove the rotor and check play on the hub itself before you decide it is unservicable. Pull the hub itself off and check for play in the bearing with your fingers. If it is really bad you may see bearing material ground up under the seals.

Cheers for the info. I think I'll just buy a new item hub assembly just to be sure.
