My mate just got a N14 Q with SR20 in it just got exahaust from extractors and some platnium spark plugs other than that stock. He reckons hell have me in my TH manual magna with exhaust that it. What are peoples personal expiriences with these cars.?

i would back the magna in the top end but its hard to say, who is the better drive etc ;)

3.5 manual will snap the pulsar, just a matter of traction most of the time. Same way it is with the 3.0 manual and the 5.0 commodores and junk. :bowrofl:

Mate ive driven a CV6 monaro and it is not a fast car neither is a mildly worked SSS pulsar.... If it was a GTir pulsar well thats a different story

You drive a 3.0 auto, I suggest you be a passenger in a decent 3.5 manual VR-X or Ralliart. You will be pleasantly suprised at it's swiftness. They can be hussled along a country road at a fair old rate quite safely

its funny how people always say go for a drive in turbo this turbo that, sure a turbo goes hard (hell my MPS3 is testiment to that) but compare a stock manual 3.5 magna to say a non turbo VL (hell even a stock VL turbo only has 150Kw's at the flywheel) or a non ported RX3 and yeah the magnas go pretty bloody well. The main difference is the magna doesnt have that sudden oh **** weve hit boost feel that most turbo cars give and that is the thing that freaks most people out in a nice turbo car.

Come to SA and ill take you for a drive in my magna and i can assure you that you will get a surprise at how well it goes for NA manual magna

I personally had a N14 Jap Spec SSS SR20 for nearly 12 years from new, before getting my Magna. They are different cars for different markets, I bought the Magna to be a family car, that I could love to drive :D , the pulsar was my bachelor car that I loved to drive till I got my magna. The SR20 is very sweet torquey high revving engine in nissan engineered format (aka standard), zorst work generally killed the low end torque and made the high end "sound" better. The platnium plugs are standard in the SR20.

But as MadMagna said, take it to the LEGAL off street drags and find out for yourself. The 0-100 times accroding to the motor / wheels mags are very similar between the 2.

Wow, once again i am shocked by people on this forum who have to just 'have a go' at everything posted. The cars I posted were slower than a 3.5l manual magna are slower. It is fact. Read their specs. Read autospeed and wheels articles on the subject. I never said my fuli h3ktik TJ Sports uleh beats everything on the road. I listed aussie built cars that were slower to 100 and down the quarter than the magna. I dont condone racing on the streets which is why i said take him for a drive. A mate of mine has one of your oh so awesome vl turbos with well over 250rwkw. He was shocked by the throttle response, midrange torque and power when i took him for a squirt. Maybe scared was the wrong term so sue me. :D

I and Muzza Oz owned a cv6 monaro in a dyno comp back when i was NA..

SSS's are a fast car, but unless your talkin the hatch back GTiR then you'll be fine, traction isn't as bad on the drag strip so aslong as your driving abilities are about the same u should be fine..

and as for you magna rookie.. :bowrofl: every car you listed there i have scalped down the quarter... unless they have spent more than 10k on the engine.. which there aren't really that many around.. a stock magna compares fairly well for what is most likely now 5 - 10 years old atleast... go back to when the magna's were new and look what was around that would scare you more than the magna..

Back on topic, sss no problem at all. Mate had one, I flogged it without any mods at all.

The magna is an underrated family car. They are not a race car, but can a 3.5ltr manual will not worry too much about any of the Holden and Ford right up to the Gen 3 V8s. Once the Gen3 V8s came out it was a different story. I have beaten a VS SS ute before, much to his disgust.
The Pulsar will be quicker (I know having raced a mates) till you get to the higher end of second gear, and then the magna's torque pulls it ahead.

But as always said... it's doesn't cost much to head down to the drags to prove it and is a lot of fun.

Dyno doesnt meant everything though.

I know it sez a N14 Q SSS with SR20
but i have a datsun 1600 SSS sedan with SR20DET that hits mid to high 10's down the quarter
and a EH sedan with a 454 big block 4 bolt that pulls mid to high 7's

so basically it all depends on tuning, mods, whether and track conditions
and also drivers reaction time and whether or not they can transfer the power to movement or just wheel spin.
coz you can have all the power you can get out of the car but if you can't transfer it to moving forwarded and break out in wheel spin there is not much point in having the power to start with.

Stock vs stock you have a power to weight advantage (9.63kg/kw vs 10.87kg/kw) plus almost twice the torque so all other things considered you should win.

I like the N14s the japspec SSS's look good, they are a pretty quick car and hard to kill. I was thinkin about getting one before i bought the magna, glad i changed my mind though :P SSS's are way to P platerish these days.

It's funny you know... we get criticised for closing these sorts of threads early but history has proven over and over again... and again here that these threads fail.

People need to take a look at Magna Rookie for just a moment... this is what happens when these threads are left to fester. Now he is under review.

At least this thread has proven something to a few of the ney sayers I come up against.
