If you don't plan to lower your car you would probally get away with it, but it would through your speedo out abit. My wife's car has 8.5" rims with 225's with low/ superlow kingsprings which rub when you corner hard, so I couldn't go any bigger.

Good to see you changed from your original size.
There was no way that 274/35/20 were going to fit, IMHO.
Have you considered 245/30/20? That should fit fine. There's a few members here running 245/45/18s which is only a few mm smaller.

whered you get the 274 from?
the 245's will be fine as long as the offset's right
im running 245's with no problems at all and im lowered on kings superlow/low combo
also running a offset of +38

I meant 275. It was in the original post before the OP edited it.

hey mate,
on my KJ i have 225/35's on 20x8" rims.. i have king lows in the front, and 'modified' king lows in the rear..
also have a 8mm shim kit in the rear to take out some camber.. NO gaurd mods.. never ever ever rubs anymore haha.. i just had to cut out the lower inner farings of the front gaurds.. pretty much where the bumper joins the gaurd.. use that as a line to cut straight across.. anything lower than that i had to remove..
but the look of a 3rd gen with 20's...... priceless...

Just be careful of the tyre's quality. Imported tyres, particularly those from China, don't have the same quality as Australian tyres or those made in Japan, Korea, & New Zealand (granted they're imported, but they have quality standards).
I just had the sidewall of my 6 month old low km Chinese made tyres blow out on my old TP Magna, I went to bridgestone and got some good Australian made supercats for $103. Why would you want to save a few dollars just to get crap imports?
Just something to keep in mind, particularly since the brand I had supposedly came out of the same factory as the Dunlops, according to Bob Jane T-marts. They basically told me too bad, I should expect that from chinese made tyres and that most tyres are made overseas now. They also said I couldn't get Aussie made tyres for the Magna... just because they don't sell them!

most tyres from places like Tempe tyres etc when you get them packaged for a deal.. like 20" for 2100 delivered incl nuts/locators/tyres, fitted and balenced etc etc... come with Kumho/nankang/ somtimes some toyo's!! all of which i've uses for years.. from 14-20" sizes from bashing them with drifitng/circut racing to just cruising.. i don't really have any complaints about them..
