Ok well AFAIK my heater core is leaking, and has been for a while - atm i dont have the money to fix it!

Anyway, last night driving home after a 10-15min stint on the freeway...after i returned back down to 60, i saw my temp gauge dropping pretty rapidly from just above 3 qauters!....anyway it was fine while cruising, but when i slowed or stopped the temp would rise fast again!

I know it probabaly wasnt the right thing to do, but i had to drop my gf home, i got home - let it cool for a few hours and then a put soem coolant in, has been fine since...

Any recommendations about it? I know my heater core needs replacing so ill try do that first, but in the mean time is there anything i should do?

Make sure your a/c temp is switched to cold, until you get it fixed check your radiator every morning and top up.

About 9.5L from memory, but just take the cap off and fill it till it overflows, replace cap.

Just use water, no point wasting money on coolant if its gonna be drained soon to replace the core.

Get it fixed ASAP, I cooked a motor 20 years ago with just a radiator leak and a length of freeway... slow leaks can turn into big leaks pretty quick.

Yeh when i say just top it up, doesnt mean its something you should put off.

If you do need to put it off for any reason, you can bypass the heater core by connecting together the heater pipes that run into the fire wall.

I dont know how hard it would be to get to on a magna though, i've never looked at mine.

I had a heater core problem myself and the mechanics did what was suggeted above....works fine until you can get the core done properly. Your looking at $500 though cause they have to take the dash out. That was for everyhting though bypass included.
