View Full Version : Front end damage?
Hay all
Had abit of a bingle with a gutter the other night. Hit it at about 40km mabey 50km on a side angle. Did abit of damage bent the control arm the strut looks straight and most of the bushes and tie rod end are broken. the wheel was bent back to the mud flap and was slightly hitting it. U can actually phisically see that the control arm got all off the hit. Im just hopping to god that the crossmember isnt bent what do u guys think.?
Thanks Kurt

Entirely possible - might be bent, probably is. You (or a repairer) need to remove the bent bits and do some measuring to see if the body is out of alignment. Does the bonnet closing line (gap between bonnet and fender) still look good on that side ie is it even?
If so, you may just be able to replace the bent bits and motor on. If not . . . . .
Hey, is this the same car that does chirpies when you wring it out in first and you speed shift into second and dump the clutch? If so, this car is having a VERY hard life!

Highly likely that the cross member will be ok however i would not chance it with your rack though, especially if you hit it hard enough to break the tie rod end.
Grab a rack, control arm and bushes and you shold be ok. The cross member is heavy alloy and is surprisingly tough
Pity you are not in Vic as I have everything you need right here lol

Ok well im getting the bits and pieces tomoz. Checked the rack arm looks good not bend but the bush on the end of it is.
How much u reckon a control arm is from wreckers.?

Any time the wheel gets a hit hard enough to bend items and especially break a tie rod, YOU MUST REPLACE THE RACK the damage will be internal and I would hate for you to be driving in a new months and have the rack fail on you, could be very dangerous or fatal. Racks are not built to take a shock at all.
