I'm possibly going to get a TF Magna (immaculate condition) and I am wondering a couple of things in terms of speakers sizes. I am probably getting a bit ahead of myself, but it would be good to know about certain things first!

I take it the rear speakers are 6x9" stock? thats easy enough.

Are the stock front speakers 6", 6.5"? I've tried google but there were conflicting results, some even saying 6"x4" etc etc.

If 6.5" for example is the stock size, would 8" fit with slight modification? I am curious about this as I have some good 8" speakers that I would love to use if they would fit! anyone tried this?

Thanks for the help in advance.

Rears are 6x9, fronts are 6". The mount will hold a 6.5" speaker fine, just need to make sure the magnet's depth isn't too big.

You should be able to fit 8" in there but would require a modified mount. IIRC Tim (previous member here) had 9" in his doors.

As above.

You can fit up to 10cm deep speakers, with a 36mm baffle and some things off the window removed.....

Been there done that lol

So how deep can you go without the hassle of removing crap?

So how deep can you go without the hassle of removing crap?

about 2 - 2 1/2" i think
that is before you need spacers to be made so the magnet doesnt hit the window

Thats for the replies! Yeah the 8" are reasonable deep speakers, just would be nice because they produce much better sound than 6"!

Is that 2" on top of the standard speaker depth?

I've got Alpine SPR-17LS woofers in the doors, they barely clear the glass (and do make contact with the magnets if you slam the door with the windows down) they have a mounting depth of 70mm

You'll want 6.5" speakers for the front because of the design of the OE speakers having a much larger mounting diameter than a 6" cone would suggest

So I'm guessing 8" speakers won't easily fit? I thought that may be the case but its good to know! Even if I already had the car its good to know, you wouldn't want to pull apart the door panelling and manage to get the speakers in only to find the windows can't go down!

What about the rear doors? are 6.5 inch speakers also be able to be inserted there? Are there any other nifty areas where speakers can be placed? (I'm also referring to smaller speakers in this instance).

They won't be impossible to fit. You just need to design the baffle so that it sticks the speaker far enough out from the window. Nothing a bit of trial and error can't overcome.

None of the Magnas had speakers in the rear door. There's no mounts or cut-outs or anything like that. You'd have to go full-on custom if you really wanted to add something there.

Thats good, what about the speaker mounts for the 8" speakers? I'm not sure exactly how the current speakers are fitted. What are they screwed in to? sorry for sounding completely clueless - its because I am since I haven't got it yet! I just don't want to be cutting anything etc, or causing the windows not to go down, or having to fit them dodgily enough that they'll fall out in case of a door slam etc! Having ideas that other people have used can always be beneficial!

First pic of what it looks like stock with the door trim removed. You can see that the factory 6" speaker is mounted on a removable plastic baffle (held in with 5 screws). Second pic is with the plastic baffle removed. As you can see, there's a very large hole in the door - you could easily fit a 8" woofer into the hole. You'd just need to make a new baffle out of MDF that lined up with the existing screw holes. It was covered somewhat in this thread (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=63725).

Thanks for that link, its perfect! Thats exactly what I'll be doing. I knew someone on here would have come up with a creative way to fit them :) I would have never have thought to look up MDF speaker baffle in search though!

Thanks for all the advice! :)
