ok i have a problem with the fagna. After sitting over night,or while sitting at work, the car will drive for about
1-2 minutes then will cough and sputter and some times will stall all together. This only happens
when going to accelerate and only when cold.Cough and sputters for about 30 seconds only after
we are constantly pumping the accelrator.Eventually this clears and the car is fine for the rest
of the day.
The car is my TF 3.0ltre manual

Any help apreciated.

hmmm :-S

so it doesn't cough and splatter after you have fludded it?
could be a fuel filter or the amount of fuel being put in the engine? im not a pro but it sounds like its running really rich when its cold, its not compensating :-S
sorry mate thats all i got!

I had a TF 3lt manual that did the same thing. Have a check of the dizzy. I thought the problem was the injectors or sumthing like that but turned out to be the dizz. Had it replaced and the car drove great till I put it sideways into a gutter, snapping the rear axle.

Hay there Darren its Keith and my lad has got the same model and guess what its doing the same as yours ..have changed the fuel filter, air filter ,spark plugs and leads , Stepper motor , air flow sensor and even had the ICS and TPS reset at mitsy's so we are none the wiser as to what is causing the same probs,.... its quite scary for the lad as he says it does it to him when its cold and pulling out in front of traffic .could be a dizzy but i would of thought that would happen all the time and not intermittant . I am thinking it may have something to do with temp and fuel /computer might look at temp senders i rekon as its ok once it gets warm..
Let me know if you find anything else .Have spoke to matt F from lonsdale and he not sure either..

hey there mate. I changed the dizzy and it now only does when the car is started after work to come home
and only lasts for about 5-10 seconds.I also disconected the battery for a few hours to see if that would help:doubt:
I also thought it was the fuel filter cause it mainly did going around corners.

Yeah mate, my TF has been doing this since the new motor went in, I know it is the dist on the new motor as I have had this before also. Funny how this is happeneing in a heap of TF's Mine does not stall but after a minute or 2 when cold it will run like crap for a miute or so then clear

Another thing to check is the plug gap, I generally pop it down to 0.9 in the 3.0's as well

yeah my brother got a second gen and his was running a bit rough at idle and hesitating when he accelarated, the dizzy cap had a small crack and you could see the track, the spark was arcing across from four to six. we got one from pickapart as a stop gap till he got a new one, and 4 out of 5 caps there had the same issue, i kid you not. fixed the problem instantly. seems to be a common fault. i did notice on the 3l dizzycaps the points run up then across the top of the cap before ending in the lead post, while most caps on other cars and the 3.5l come strait up the side, if you know what i mean. flawed design??

Do you rekon it improved it some what ? i will get lad to see if there is any dissy's at u pull it and maybe give it a go .Southland mitsubishi rekon that resetting the TPS and ICS should fix it but after spending the money it was still the same .They said bring it back for some more diagnosing AT 65$ per hour what a joke .we have had the battery of for a reset of computer but that didnt fix anything.Adams car only started playing up after a gearbox exchange but they read codes in computer after it was reset and no faults were found ...running out of things to change , has a new battery etc.

PS the dissy caps on 3.o /3.5 are all the same it fits both engines trust me no differance in them..

yes that is true the dizy cap used on all 3rd gen v6 is the same.
Got a price for a new one today autobahn wanted about $240 if they could find one somewhere
so i thought id try mitsy and they only wanted $127 for one.
