Hey Amc, i was thinking about installing a mediocre sound system into my 94 ts,
I would have the following components;

Head unit
6" or 6.5" inch speakers in verada door pods
6x9's in the rear parcel shelf
An Amp for the speakers,
One 12" or two 10" sub's
An Amp for the subs,

what i am wandering about is what kind of amp do i need for the speakers and what kinda amp for the sub?
Also which Amp/Speaker wire do i need? like gauge/types ect, any help is greatly appreciated!
Would it be better to get someone to do it for me, how much would it cost?

cheers!

what are the specs/model number of your speakers and sub?
gives us thos then we'll be able to help you ;)

but you'll want a amp that matches the rms value of the speakers plus alittle more incase you upgrade but also so you dont overwork the amp
remember that the speakers are 4ohm and the sub could be either 4 or 2 ohms depending on sub and voice coils and whatnot

cheaper system would be a 4 channel amp with channel 1 and 2 running to the speakers and channels 3 and 4 bridged to the sub. so the sub will need to be a single 4ohm coil or dual 2 ohm. run the rears off the headunit

where in victoria are you?

Forget the 6x9s, waste of money. Honestly. I've left the factory 6x9s in mine for a small amount of fill only. Might replace them someday but they're fine at the moment

Noooooo! Dont forget them! I thought about doing that, but then decided against it! Best decision I ever made! The 6x9 make a big diference to fill and for if you ever have people sitting in the back of your car! I love my 6x9's almost as much as my front components now...

I am in Sunbury, not too far from the cbd :)

been checking out some gear on ebay and its fair cheap, was thinking about getting a monoblock/2channel amp for the sub/subs and getting another 4 channel for the front and rear speakers? considering amps are cheap as chips on ebay!

I love my 6x9's almost as much as my front components now...Goes against everything I've ever heard. I'd replace the 6x9s with better 6.5" coaxials, not 6x9s though. Rear passengers are getting a free ride so they can suck it up, on the extremely rare occasion i have more than one passenger.

be careful what you get on ebay. anything genuine second hand is fine but all the rockwood crap can stay there. you are way better off buying something decent up front rather than chopping and changing later.. AND as a benefit to you theres less likelyhood of a cheap amp starting a fire (it has been known to happen)

id still recommend a decent 4 channel amp (if you are price conscious look at purchasing second hand or buying from jaycar) to run your fronts and sub. i dont even have rears and the stereo gets loud and clear.

edit: id also go a decent single 12" sub over 2 10"

2 x 130 watt for the fronts. 380 watt bridge for the rear. @ 4 Ohms
