hey guys, need all of your knowledge.

when i start the car and reverse out my driveway or carpark my wheel squeeks continuously.
then i stop and the squeeking stops until i move forward again and it squeeks once more until i go a little faster.

i asked my mechanic and he says something about the handbrake drum being a little dirty or soemthing? does this sound feasable?
or could it be something else?

any help would be appreciated.

yep sounds very fesiable (sorry for the spelling) my tj is doing this exact thing.... i know my old pulsar used to do this with the rear drums every so often i would just pull the drums off and give the whole thing a good wash with water used to work a treat... been to lazy to do it to the tj yet. It is also possible the handbrake just needs a bit of a tighten up.

Arggg My magna also squeels like this. Hopefully it will be fixed when i get it serviced in a few weeks.

is it a squeek or a grinding noise?
and you only get it at a walking pace speed?
is so then your handbrake rotors/drums may be warped
my TL used to do it, got it fixed and started again a week later, dont know if it still does it or not  lol

The handbrake ssemblies are fairly notorious for this apparently. My car currently squeals from the back with really light pedal pressure at any speed. As mentioned, they (the assemblies) love a good clean out and an adjustment.

My earlier TE went through countless replacement handbrake systems before the chronic squealing stopped. The dealer just kept trying a new one until the squeal went away.

different problem in that thread, that's related to the seat bolts or something, this one is brake related, mine used to do it on the right rear, hasn't done it since I changed my wheels.... until a few days ago when the left rear started to squeal under light braking

it doesnt happen when i brake, just at walking pace.

and not a grinding, its a high pitched squeel

And gets faster\louder as you speed up till it goes away? that's what mine did, turned out it was the hubcap spring making the noise somehow, it went when I changed wheels. Don't really know what your noise could be caused by if you don't have hubcaps

No not really. After a certain speed it will jus stop making the noise. Doesn't get louder or anything.

Mine started doing this after it's last service and it has been back twice to get fixed and it only stops until I get home 40mins up the road. Gonna take it to mitsu and get them to fix it.
It goes away after I pass 40km or put some pressure on the handbrake or brakes sometimes.

Mine does it very spasmodically it didn't do it tonight but it did it last sunday when I last used it. I know it has nothing to do with the temps as it has done it on cold nights and hot days.
I was told by a friend who use to be a mech at mitsu that you don't touch the cable adjusters in the centre console and that all the adjustment is to be done at the hubs. I suspect my mech did it via the console, but they have done the handbrake before a couple of times with no drama but last service it has done this since and as I said it has been back twice with the problem still evident.
