I know there been a heap of threads on 3.0 ecu's running 3.5 engines fine, with a few minor hiccups. But i wanna know about the gearbox aswell
Im getting a 03tj engine and auto box which will be going in my 97tf. I want to know if im doing the engine & auto gearbox will i still be able to run my 3.0 loom and ecu / tcu?
mitus mechanic said no, asked a few other people they said yes. :doubt:
Cheers,
lowrider is doing it atm (3.0L auto ECU on 3.5L manual) and apparently the AFR is quite dangerous atm.

thanks for the irrelevance, he wants to know if the auto will work, the engine should be fine but the trans could be an issue, why dont you just change the ecu over?

yeah im just worried about the transmission, if i could get my hands on a stock 3.5 tcu iwould? There is a TCU involved aswell eh? not just ecu

One member here has just put the later 3.5 trans into a TF when his blew up, apparently the trans pluged straight in and runs fine. Had a quick look but did not find, I know this was going last weekend.
The ECU componant will also be fine, has been done several times by several people. The ECu will relearn through the MAF and 02 sensor and will be able to compensate enough. It is not like there is a massive difference between the 2.

hey, yeah i am running a 3lt ecu with a 3.5lt engine and box, im having a few troubles, wont let me rev it over 5k but im pretty sure that its not the gearbox, it is something to do with something else..
so it does run it fine, however thier may be a few hicups if my problem is related to the 3.5box and 3lt ecu..
pretty sure that i just needs a aftermarket running it although havent got around to it yet..
awesome

are you havn problems with the transmission jumping gears or istead of dropping one gear going back to first?
Does it just change gear at 5000rpm or just sit there

The 3.5lt gearbox, is this still just a 4speed?
Im soon in the need for a new gearbox - im either looking at recon, or was about to ask the same question, if a later model gearbox can work with the 3lt engine (97 TF)

it doesnt really jump gears or going back but yeah..
it just kinda gets to 5k it juts sits their for about 3 seconds or so and then change gears down normally.. oh yeah whilst its sitting thier its making a loud annoying noise too.
other then that its fine, im pretty sure that i just need to get an aftermarket ecu..

LOL, so there is a few problems. The engine should be fine runnig off the 3.0ecu coz they should adapt. did you do the conversion yourself? the loud noise sounds interesting, sure its a ecu problem?
I'm getting stuffed around with engine but got the gearbox, ill wack it in and see what happens. My diff is ******* and i cant wait any longer so ill do em seperate. When i finish ill port up how it went.

nah got my mate who is a mechanic to do it, ivee asked him and everything he doesn tknow what it is, havent really gone to anyone else to see if they know what it is, prob should do that?
haha i have nooo idea what the problem is with at all, but it only happened after i got the 3.5 motor and gear box, so i am just thinking that its the ecu..
its not all that big of a problem, i know when to ease off the throttle so that it will change gears before it hits 5000 rpm so i just do that..
ill get a video of it next time im driving and its not busy and post it up..
