View Full Version : Jaycar Headlight Reminder
Hey all,
Purchased a headlight reminder kit the other day from Jaycar, and was just wondering if anyone could help me out with idea's about where i can draw a low current constant 12v power supply from?
I was thinking possibly linking it to the constant power supply for the HU? The kit info is downstairs but from memory it only draws something like 200mA.
Also anyone have any idea's about where i can get access to the wiring for the light switch, i just need to find somewhere where i can easily link the Jaycar kit to
Thanks in advance :)

The headlight swith itself should have a constant as the lights still come on when the key is off.
Use a multimeter or test light, find the constant, find the wire with power only when the lights are switched on and just wire it in.

Just wondering why you bothered, when the magna lights switch down to parkers when the key is off? Not having a go, just curious. If you change your parkers to LED, even leaving the rears, should be able to leave the car with the lights on for quite some time before it drains the battery too far.

My record was 4 hours.

Hi there, I know this doesn't answer your question, but I solved the problem of leaving your lights on with a $5 relay.
If you know how to set one up, it basically disconnects the parkers circuit when there is no ignition power..... probably less hassle than setting up a kit.
But if you really want to, there is constant power at least somewhere in the bunch of wires going up to your steering column (find these behind the dash cover round about behind where your key is)
Or if you want you could trace it from your radio
Always make sure you fuse it too when installing electrics

Bit of a mine, but i wana know how pete did the relay thing. I drive with parkers/fogs always on and sometimes i forget to turn them off. Pete?

Easy, accessories to the switch terminals. Head light switch wires to the switched side of the relay.
That way, when the car is off it will cut power to the headlights.

The dimmer switch for the dash!
only has low power when lights are on.
Done it and works a treat as i use it for a relay for my fog lights.
eg fogs only come on with parkers and better (like lights) and they have a separate on/off switch.
This is what you need ..location on right side of steering column mounted on dash.
Use the wire that has power with lights on.
Or just play until it works,,lol

My record was 4 hours.
diggin up a slightly old thread, but...
4 hours until flat, or?
I am absolutely horrendous at leaving my lights on but yeh never even had so much as a bad crank as a result .. I'm not sure I've left it more than a few hours but I doubt the parkers are very intensive.
Part of my micro-controller stuff I'm gonna hook up an illumination warning, not hard it's got a wire right there on the stereo harness. I think once I've had it beep at me BEFORE getting out of the car a few times I should learn to do it then. That's what I find - then it'l be annoying but I can turn it off again. :)

I'm pretty sure the parkers are meant to be able to last a lot, lot longer than 4 hours! If not, it kinda defeats the purpose of having them in the first place!
