Hay all
I have taken my stock shock and spring out to fix a couple suspension parts at the front. Had trouble getting out but putting in is even harder. I need a serious guide to put it back in cause its really pissing me off:rant: . I got these 2 bits dont know what they do or how to put them back aswell. Please someone help

some one correct me if im wrong
the metal bit in the left side of your pic is the strut top that bolts to the strut
and the rubber piece sits under it on your spring then you need to bolt it back on to your strut.

Correct, however if you put it together with the spring wrong and you put it back in you will hear a clunk from the front, that is the strut turning slightly with the wheel and connecting with the housing.
When you put it together you will notice on the strut where the spring sits there is a small hole and the same for the top spring housing. You need to line these up and facing you, this will ensure that no clunking occurs.
It is alot easier to install the spring, strut and strut top complete.

The thing on the left is the strut top, it goes over the top of the spring cradle (that's what I'd call it lol) and a nylock nut secures it to the strut. The right thing is the top half of the spring cradle i was referring to... Like grelise said make sure you line it up correctly or it will clunk.

Make sure the nuts on the top of the strut are more then handtight, right Luci? :P

So let me get my head around this, you have removed and taken apart one of the most dangerous parts of an automobile and do not know where the main part goes back in the scheme of things.....hmmm right
I have no issues with someone wanting to learn but mate, you could have killed yourself releasing a spring, I damn hope you use a spring compressor. ALso how the hell did you get it apart and not know where the main top plate belongs?
Suggestion, get a proper workshop manual and study it before you touch your car again. Even if you get done what you want done, you could have a serious mechanical failure and end up killing someone when your car fails to turn or stop

someone has also done a how to guide on their web site on instructions, safety precautions, and tools you need to do this safely, just google it.

Once i put a box over the end when i unbolted the bolt so the bold wouldnt spring off. Then i went and borrowed some clamps.... Not a good idea very sore wrist. I hope he didnt un do-it while still sitting in the strut tower. id hate to even think of what would happen then.
EDIT: i did know what i was doing just was lazy.

Faaark if you do not know what you are doing with this kind of stuff - the major safety facets on a car LEAVE THEM ALONE and pay to have it replaced a few extra dollars could really save your back side
Not only is it your life but the persons in the oncomming car , the person waiting on the foot path for a bus
