Well, I have finally finished what I have been dying to complete for quite some time.

I have managed to fit a leather bound 'sports' wheel with 3rd gen SRS airbag to my KS Verada (which has cruise and airbag)

3rd gen parts used were: Wheel & plastic surround, horn springs, cruise stalk (suited for TE/TF, no on/off button on stalk) & SRS airbag

2nd gen parts: Clock spring (wheel direction sensor that sits around steering shaft)

Everything went in without much trouble, only problem I had was the steering wheel surround backing (the plastic bit) was rubbing against the plastic surround around the steering shaft. I managed to get around that by shortening the four plastic mounting points that the plastic backing attaches to the back of the wheel with.

SRS, horn and Cruise stalk were direct plug-ins to the 3rd gen clock spring harness.

Thanks heaps to ih8hsv for the wheel!

Check out the pics:

looks good  at least now its an option for 2nd genners with worn leather wheels.

most 2ng genners will not have an airbag so they can just use the regular horn pad, which is cheaper, safer and easier to change. but it is definitely an easy way to put a nice leather wheel in your 2nd gen with or without SRS standard

I guess the question is now does the air bag work. Only one way to check I guess! :P

Air bag has only two pins in the plug, exactly the same plug as the 2nd gen plug, and only fits one way. Hopefully I don't have to test it out *touches wood* but in the event that I do, I am adamant that it will fire correctly. I have used my original clock spring, it is literally one airbag swapped for another one with the same plug.

Lucky I fixed my ABS or I would have likely tested it out on Thursday lol totally missed a give way sign and nearly got cleaned up

These are awsome on the second gen, had one on my KR and made it feel like a different car

Not hard at all, and I'm sure you wouldn't have much trouble finding a standard lether-bound wheel with the amount of people who have upgraded to Ralliart wheels.

I was generously given mine :D

If you don't have an airbag standard you can just go for it with a regular horn pad - easy!

You will need a torx head screwdriver for the bolts on the 3g wheel, about a 22mm socket for the spline nut, and a phillips head screwdriver

Here is something interesting I found,

This 1995 Mitsubishi 3000GT Spyder VR4 (http://images.google.com.au/imgres?imgurl=http://www.3000gtspyder.com/spyder/gallery_jeffs_spyder_files/interior.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.3000gtspyder.com/spyder/gallery_jeffs_spyder.htm&usg=__N6evDByHLeGAVftrEUnvmg3HfZ4=&h=473&w=640&sz=63&hl=en&start=2&um=1&tbnid=5s9mwyA7v54eqM:&tbnh=101&tbnw=137&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dvr4%2Binterior%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff %26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26hs%3DfeC%26sa%3DN%26um%3D1) uses the same wheel as the KS xi Verada

Oh, and I did manage to confirm that the 8g VR4 Legnums and Galants' woodgrain wheel is the same as the Verada GTVi. (Made by Nardi Torino of Italy)
