Hey guys,

I have just started my second job which means more money for aidan for mods :) And i'm thinking rims and Sound system first.

I got quoted from a specialty car audio dealer 5.5K for a kick ass system. It seems like a cool idea but i won't have that kind of money any time soon. So what i'm asking all you knowledgeable members out there is..

What brands offer good quality and sound (speakers. i like choosing my head unit.) at a decet price.

Thanks guys,
Aidan

For any good sound system, simplicity is the key.

Decent source, good splits up front, decent sub and an amp for both.

Most stage builds go like this:
Stage 1: Source
Stage 2: Front splits, deadening, amp
Stage 3: Sub, box, amp
Stage 4: Rear speakers is you really must.

As for good brands, let your eyes decide... Auditioning is key.

Hey man, I don't think you've heard my splits, but they're running off the deck, and (personally) I think they sound GREAT for the second worst set of splits in hertz range.
I've never been able to stump em, they just keep playing, no distortion or anything, the only distortion I get is when I crank the headunit, and I've been told that's because the amp in it is distorting, so I'm gonna try and fix that soon by getting an amp.

I've got the ESK-165, and I got 2007's model, so I got em cheap as.
My only problem is that they don't have adjustable xovers, which is fine, until you wanna mess around with stuff (pretty sure the amp will fix this too with filters).

But as most people say, and I've now learnt, focus your money on the front stage, I just got crappy pioneers in the back, and it still sounds awesome, because I got decent splits, and a sub. Oh.. and about that..

I got a hertz 12" sub from the same range, and my opinion on it is about the same as the splits, haven't managed to fault it yet.. The only thing I'm unhappy with is the cost of dynamat :P.

Overall, I think my system sounds great atm, and the whole things probably only worth just over $1k, maybe 1.5.

Your ears might be a bit more sensitive than mine though.

I'll give you a listen on the byron bay cruz if your coming.

Thanks for the ideas guys. So as for brands you reckon just go listen to em at stores etc.? If i take my own CD you reckon they'd let me listen to it?

For sure man, most good places will encourage you to bring along a cd of your own.

$5500 seems pretty excessive. Sure it'd be nice but its a bit OTT.

But if its your thing then go for it mate!

As far as brands go, I'd say go and listen to different speakers and setups, because it'll be down to individual preference. As mentioned earlier, take along a cd of the music you normally listen to and "audition" various setups.

Pick what you want out of the sound system, and go from there.....

Plan ahead, hell I've bought my system twice over due to changing my mind lol

Find out what you want, and go from there - just collects bits and pieces when you can, buy the best you can possibly afford. If that means you dont have rear speakers, then you dont have rear speakers (plus saves on amps)

this is my rough breakdown of costs for my system:

Pioneer H/U $500

RE Audio front splits $1000RRP

Rockford P3D412 12" 500wrms sub - $500

Soundstream TRX2.640 (front stage) $500

Soundstream TRX1500D (sub) $580

Dynamat Xtreme - $650

Dynamat Dynaliner $169

Electrics - $400

Boot install materials - $400

Hours put into system - 50hours

Total cost for parts - $4699 + labour.
