Is anyone able to post-up a pic of the Ipod-friendly 6-Cd stacker in 380's - as mentioned in posts above. Just wondering if its the single-DIN in-dash CD-changer which was also in KJ's - built by Matsu****a??
EDIT: LOL at swear filter - the jap company that makes panasonic.

I posted a pic of the backplane of the unit in my original install discussion:

The units listed in the compatibility are all Mitsubishi Japan units. They also make the adapter. It is the double DIN unit and not the smaller offering of the earlier Verada models. The unit has a DIN plug (between the two white connectors) on the rear for the installation of a 10 CD stacker like those mounted in the boot of some cars in years gone by. The iPod interface actually mimics this stacker in the way it operates.
BTW - Matu****a has been renamed as purely Panasonic or is about to be. The product name took over from the manufacturer...

Thanks Zarbs.
The single-DIN older units have a mini-DIN size (but proprietary pin arrangement) connector from radio to Changer - which is 13-pins. they also have another connector on the Changer (think it is 20-pins) which would go to stacker, and I'm guessing an IPod adaptor could connecdt there and mimic a stacker ....
However, at the price of the IPod adaptor, its an experiment I'm not gonna try (stimulus payment or not, its too much money to risk on a "maybe" proposition).
Thanks for clarifying and showing the pic of the more modern unit. I suppose I can always haunt EBay for a discarded KL-KW unit if someone goes aftermarket!!
EDIT: New/better info. The 20-pin connection at back of CD-Changer is used to attach to radio HU (where it attaches to a 13-pin socket), in both ends of this connection, only 9 pins are used. So, stating another way: 13-pin socket on radio goes thru short cable to a 20-pin socket on CD-changer, leaving another 13-pin socket on back of CD-changer.

hi was having a look at the pic yes that is right it if you dont have a cd stacker and just the head unit you can add the cd stacker to it i have up loaded the info on conecting the ipod and cd stacker with it hope this will help
hi to all i have just found out that these units do not work on the 2004 model if you are unsertin to check
just at the bottom of the fascia below the air controls pull out towards you it should unclip then do the same to the top then unclip the connectors to the air controls unscrew the audio unit look on the back if you see a small
round din plug spot then the unit will work in your car if not then it wont
the one in zarbs car it will work on
cheers liam
hi to all i have one of these ipod adapter units left over from an order is for sale for $240 plus shipping if some one wants one cheers liam

hi tom no problems that you are in sydney can send cost $10 for postage as for installing it , it is easy even you can do it , at the bottom of the fascia just below the air controls find the bottom edge and pull towards you gently
as the tabs can break easily and the do the same at the top just pull it towards you the fascia will come off the undo
the 4 screws that hold the audio unit in place pull out then just run the cable through the left hand side so it come out into the glove box make sure glove box is open then just plug the ipod din plug into the back of the audio unit
you will see a small round black plug spot plug it in there then reinstall every thing the unit comes with instructions
so you should not have too much trouble if you do you can call me on 0410999646
so total cost of unit plus shipping will be $250
cheers liam

Quick question. From Elwyn's thread below, the 6 cd changer also has the 20pin connector. Will it work on them 3rd gens then? Will this cable work for an iPhone 3G?

The 20-pin connector on back of CD-Changer is used to connect from CD-Changer back to Radio HU...... the "spare" connector on the back of the CD-changer is a 13-pin connector. A cable with 9-pins used runs from the Radio 13-pin socket to the CD-changer 20-pin socket.
IF an IPOD adaptor could be attached to that 13-pin connector, and mimic a remote CD-stacker - I would be in HEAVEN.
The KJ OEM radio-cassette is a Mitsubishi Electric Japan unit, the OEM in-dash CD-changer is Panasonic. The extra 13-pin socket on back of CD-changer is apparently to enable a remote CD-stacker to attach like a "daisy chain". Any IPOD adaptor would just have to use the correct 9-pins and mimic the remote CD-stacker...... I've tried to search pinouts etc, but am bit of a cave-dweller where audio and electronics and web-search is concerned, so I have never found anything I could use....
EDIT: I have seen an IPOD adaptor cable in a Hong Kong EBay store with that same 13-pin connector, but was stated as suitable for Kenwood HU's. May search that again and see how much it is - if cheap, I may buy one to experiment...... being cheap, I guess it'll have a moulded plug - if the 13-pin plug could be reconfigured (pins swapped) would be extra good to experiment with (may only suceed in frying HU and/or CD-changer though....)

Will it work on them 3rd gens then? Will this cable work for an iPhone 3G?
I use the iPod interface with my iPhone 3G though in its native form it does not charge the iPhone because Apple changed the charging circuit from Firewire (which this interface uses) to USB which is available on all current iPods and the iPhone. The change simply swapped the pins on which the power enters the unit on the cable plug. You can get an adapter like this one:
http://www.cablejive.com/charge-converter
I also use this holder to hold the iPhone:
http://www.holdmyphone.net/iPhone/Thru-Connect-Adjustable-Holder.html
in conjunction with this dash mount:
http://www.holdmyphone.net/380-05-09/Angled-Mount.html
This unit works with all 380 head units...

There goes my plan!
@Evil-Emporer-Zerg (bit of Buzz Lightyear humour)....
Here's a link to the iPod adaptor cable I mentioned:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/KENWOOD-DIN-CABLE-2-APPLE-iPOD-INTERFACE-KCA-IP500-GB_W0QQitemZ370142274077QQcmdZViewItemQQptZOther_M P3_Player_Accessories?hash=item562e32e21d&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262&_trkparms=|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A30
Sorry I am not real VB (or whatever) savvy to put a cute blue link into the text. (Edit: After I posted this, it recognised the link - COOL!)
This cable has a 13-pin connector, like would suit the back-plate of KJ OEM radio or CD-changer...... however, the 13-pin plug IS moulded, meaning can't really re-wire the pins in case it doesn't just work out of the box. Plus, I like to charge IPOD in the car using the dock-connector, so this wouldn't permit that. Price-wise its worth a punt, but just wish the 13-pin plug could be pulled-apart to swap pins if necessary.
I'm gonna sit on this and think about it some more...... at present I am using a Radio/cassette HU so I can use a cassette adaptor to feed IPOD audio - I do not like the FM transmitters, sound is too poor for me. If I could get an IPOD connection via back of the unit or CD-changer, I'd upgrade to a Radio/Single-CD HU, which I am told may play MP3 cd's. They are, I think, still available from Caine at Mitsi Clearance in Adelaide.

Here's the link of what's inside the cable and you can make one urself from parts from jays or something. Well shouldn't be hard!
Just found another link with all the cd changer protocols! Sweet!
