View Full Version : Colour coding things like window wipers - ricey?
Hey people. Would like some opinions on the definition of ricey. I'm thinking of colour coding all the black bits on my white TF a blue colour - closest I can call it is the WRX blue. I like these mid blue metallics. But am I going too far if I paint things like the leaf guards, windows wiper arms etc?
Grill will most likely be a blue mesh. Rear boot garnish would be white with the writing in blue. Maybe a blue centre console. But I start thinking "hmmm, got rice?".
So - what defines rice to people?
Regards, Tony
To me its slightly ricey, however it does depend on how it is carried out (the finished/end result).
So long as you're not putting LED's into the washer jets, then it cant be that bad.

If colour coding the wiper arms/ assemblies constitutes rice, then I am ricing the Commodore :D already got satin chrome (read matt silver) wiper assemblies, next is to spray the arms to match.
I think ricey may be the wrong wording....
Tacky is probably better.
You can only try and see how it looks - worse case is you paint it black soon after anyway.

Tony - didnt expect this from you :bowrofl:
Wiper blades are a no no - invest in some Bosch aero twins....they look much better and the other 6 people off AMC who I have converted them too all agree.
The blue......mmmmm.......I would say color code it white......
like interior wise scott_mueky's car is perfect example, it's white on the outside but you open the door and OMG RED DASH, RED SEAT'S, RED DOOR TRIMS, RED RED RED, I personally like the color matched scheme but yeah, each to there own.

Make that 7... I saw an Aero Twin thread and bought a set. They work oh-so-well and look so much tidier than the standard windscreen wipers!

I agree. Colour coding some items can improve the look of the car (ie door handles, side skirts). Others... not really. You really want contrast on your car. Making it entirely one colour will look crap.

You know what got me thinking this - that chrome grill on ebay. To me, chrome everywhere is ricey.
I've kicked it around a bit overnight. Thinking colour the grill mesh , the leaf guard and wiper arms (will look at those Bosch's today, do need new blades - even new arms), the trim down the middle of the doors (sorry, getting old and proper name escapes me) and the letters in Magna on the boot garnish blue. Everything else exterior will stay Paris White except may code the mudflaps white.
As Red Valdez said - you need contrast.
Interior; won't blue that, as I reckon I'd need to go whole hog (have blue trim etc on seats) to make it look good. I'll grab a spare centre console at the wreckers and try gloss piano black on it. What put me off was a Top Gear I watched last night. Everything inside one car was a bright red or chrome - and I wasn't impressed. What I need on my interior is upgraded seats (have the exec seats, want a velour or even leather).
However, wanting to get a ralliart wheel and the red won't suit. Will be looking to dye the red blue or black.
Thanks guys - appreciate the coments.

What ever colour you end up spraying the console PM me some pics when ya done. I've got a white TE, with colour coded white door handles and white console but it's time to change it up a bit me thinks.
