Did you cut out that small plastic shelf under the factory 4" speaker? It doesn't serve any purpose so you can get rid of it, will increase depth from 20mm to around 46mm.
no i did ot, i wasnt to sre about cutting into it.... ill have a look in bit and see if that is a option for me thanks for the info

I used a soldering iron to melt away the shelf under it, using a knife was taking forever and if your not careful you take chunks outta your dash with them, soldering iron was easy, just melt a hole in it for the speakers to fit, keep the doors open but and don't breath in the fumes:P

sony make a low depth 4" that fits perfectly in the dash.

1) He already said he has speakers and 2) why would you replace crap speakers with ever so slightly less crap speakers?

They are 4" speakers in the dash hardly in a superb location nor a will they sound great no matter what he puts there.

Sound pretty friggen good to me. Just because they're not in an ideal location doesn't mean you can't make them sound decent. All beside the point anyway because he already has speakers so its more about fitting them in, cutting the shelf is really the only option and its a 5 min process anyway per side so hell why not I reckon. When I did our TR I never had the slightest issue with damaging anything else around it, just don't extend the blade too far, just enough to cut what you want to :P
if i was to cut into it ever so slightly is there anything under there that i could damage?
is the shelf there for pretty looks or is it there to cover omething important?
soz to be a pain
