Does anyone know for the 2002 KJ verada Ei's if you can easily install the button commands for the volume and track selection at the bottom of the wheel?
Looking to get this option added but only if its a easy upgrade without running wires and junk.
Cheers!

You'll need wiring, clock springs etc. Clock springs are metal tracks in concentric circles around the steering shaft. This enables electric signals while turning the steering wheel. The standard ei already has the basic clock springs for cruise and horn.

So would this be as simply as purchasing the button panel then plugging it in cause i noticed that when i put the leather seats in,the wiring loom was already there to go for this option so maybe the wiring is already setup for it but would just be the matter of buying the panel?
Cheers!

JJ,

Great idea for a mod!! If you get info of costs/part-no etc, would you mind posting these up?

I expect the remote function depends upon the OEM head-unit fitted in your car, compared to what an Xi would have had. My KJ is fairly early 2000 model, would you mind posting a pic of your HU, for comparison??

Sounds like you lucked-in with the looms for the power seats. You might have to attack your wheel and steering column shroud in your bored moments, to see if there are any "spare" connectors in there which could conceivably be for audio remote functions. The Factory Workshop manuals will show wiring colours etc in the cicuit diagrams - they are linked in the Tech Torque forum.

As mentioned above, the clock spring will need to be changed to support the panel. When I changed the steering wheel over to a Ralliart in my Xi, the button panel plugged into the steering wheel assembly clock spring.

As for the head units from factory, The EI and XI got the same headunits and there is a small plug 2-3 wires I believe that are in a plug seperate from the main loom which go into the back of the headunits. This plug is from the steering remote. So the current factory EI units will support the remote. An easy check if you have the wiring installed would be to look beind the head unit to see if the plug with 6 points is used.

You will also need to change the black plastic shroud on the back of the steering wheel to one with the cutout for the remote. The steering wheel frames are all identical and have bolt holes for the remotes already. Other than that, the remotes are backlit, and are quite useful. Of course, mine is useless as I dont have the factory system installed anymore.

***EDIT*** The part number for the Remote Panel is MR 172 852 ***EDIT***

Thanks Fella !! Awesome info, direct experience, super-helpful stuff. You're a champion.

My car is older, head-unit differs, but will look for the small extra plug when next I have console out (gonna swap a 4-CD in-dash for a 6-CD unit, and maybe try to get my Parrot BT kit working at last).

If ever I see the remote buttons in a wreck, I'll be very tempted. Good to know about steering shroud and clock-spring connection too. Thanks.

I have a 2002 KJ Verada Ei and i fitted other electric options that the Xi and gtv have so im guessing all the looms are there ready to go but i could be wrong!
Might have to remove the face panel to check if there is a plug there.

Hello, I was aksed to provide pictures of behind the steering wheel airbag so here they are.

Attached are pictures of behind the airbag for the Steering wheel remote. The remote sits on a bracket attached to two lower bolt holes in ALL wheel frames.

I cannot tell you the part number of the clock spring sorry. If your clock spring can cope with the remote, it should have a small empty white plug on a reasonable amount of shrouded wire behind the horn pad. The remote just plugs into this. There will be another plug at the other end of the clocl spring and this wiring will be needed to travel to the stereo.
