hey all, just a few questions about installing some speakers.
I'm planning on popping some 6" speakers into my front doors, and am just wondering how I should go about it?
What I need to know is:
1) Do I just cut the wires to my 4" dash speakers and re-route them through the door and cut a hole in my toor trim for the speaker?
2)Is there anything I need to make up for this?
3)Anyone that has done this before, have you had problems with vibrations in the door? I have some of that tar sound deadener so I may use that while I'm at it. Dynamat is too expensive for my needs although it would be awesome.
4) Anything else I need to know?
Cheers,
-Matt.

Oh, one more thing, would it be possible to say make a 6 speaker sound system with my current head unit and not needing to wire anything up to amps? I dont think I can. Don't know the model number, but its the Sony one with Aux input, I think its the 2007 model. It's fairly basic. So basically what I'm asking is if I can run dash, door and parcel shelf speakers all of the HU.
atm I have (if it helps)
-sony head unit.
-sony in dash 4" speakers.
-sony 6.5" parcel shelf speakers.
-BOSS Audio 1500W Mono Block, so cant wire any speakers to this.
-Sony 1300W Sub in Box.
I will be upgrading the 6.5"s to Pioneer 6x9"s in the near future. And I would also Like to get a new Head Unit, but I wont cos I am still trying to save for a new car, but thats a while off, so I want this one to sound good still while I have it.

if you are trying to save up then just leave the rears as they are, or move them to the front and not run the rear speakers. therell be plenty of sound up the front and you dont need 6x9's cause you already have a sub to take care of the low notes

Upgrade to 6x9's and leave the 4inch ones in the dash. Adding 6inch ones to the front as well as the 4's is not a good idea. The 4inches give good sound up front with the 6x9 and sub. You can add 3 speakers to a head unit but everytime you add another set of speakers you reduce the impedance by 2. You would have 2ohms running 4 speakers and this would increase your distortion 10 fold.
When I had my TP I took the 4inches out and put tweeters there to run splits in the front. Depends on your budget :)

OK thanks for that info mate much appreciated. I will scrap the idea of running 6 speakers off the HU then.
6x9s are a birthday present I'll be getting (I had to choose them out haha) in a week and a half, so they are a definate,
would it be better to:
a) put 6x9s in the rear, and put 6.5s in the drivers doors, by cutting wires to dash speakers and rewiring them to the door.
b) put 6x9s in the rear, and leave 4" dash speakers as they are OR
c) something else?
cheers guys

if you are getting rid of it anyway, then dont worry too much about cutting up your doors. 6x9's and 4 inches should suffice

My next question is, whats the best way to install the 6x9s?
I've seen the angled spacers, what are peoples opinions on those? and are they any good? I'd rather not do any more drilling through my parcel shelf hehe.

Best to use spacers and not cut the parcel shelf :) The 4inches and the 6x9s will be fine with a sub

Alright, thanks mate, do the spacers just screw into the holes currently in there?? or how do I actually attach them... There might not be enough room for them between my window/parcel shelf... it's a pretty tight squeeze haha. When I get the speakers I'll have a better look for sizing.
thanks very much for the help guys

go to the wreckers and get a parcel shelf you can chop up if you want to get rid of your car with a complete parcel shelf. when you cut holes in the material the speakers should just drop straight in AFAIK.. unless the TP parcel shelf is solid metal? not sure.. if there are precut holes (look in the boot from the bottom) just cut up the parcel shelf and fit speakers in. if you really want to take the 6x9's with you later, you can replace them with a pair of cheap $20 ones

2) Cut, twist together (each end of wire split the ends in half (so it looks like a V) and interlock the wires together and twist, ensures a better twist) solder, and tape and or/heatshrink. if you heatshrink, remember to place the heatshrink on BEFORE you twist + solder the wires together :D

Cheers man, will 6.5"'s fit straight in? or you dunno?
despite people expressing their thoughts on what you should do to your car ( im not paying out i actually welcome it), i noticed tho that noone answered your first and main question.
1)in the event you want to run speakers to your door do not use the original wiring of the 4" and just add lengh its tedious and useless not to mention dodgey, if you wanted to do it, you would run new wire from the headunit to the front doors ,
2)there is not anything you need to make up for this if you use slim magnet speakers, however using a bsic mdf spacer would be a preferred option and would proberly look better ( on looks its always a matter of personal taste in the end )
3) i currently drive a ts with 4" fronts however i did this in my old TM model magna ( ahh the years go by since i rid myself of that thing  ) and i had no issues with vibration at that time
4) santa claus isnt real, micheal jackson was once black, im actually very good looking in my own eyes, and most important when working on anything electrical it is highly recommanded you take the positive terminal ( some say negative, others do not) off the battery before you start your task
5) yes it is possible to have six operational speakers of a headunit, however it involves joining the speaker wire at the headunit over double channels and you will lose sound quality asa result its its just plain wrong, if you want a 6 speaker setup spend out on the amp and doi t right
6) my personall thoughts about having 6x9's and subs are not bery pleasant, but each to their own

thanks a lot mate. I was still waiting for a response to my origional question haha. That clears things up well for me :D much appreciated.

God I hate that 'V' type of twisting wires together.
I'll post a pic of how I twist wires together, Im rather pedantic when it comes to making everything 'neat' lol

Firstly tops to actually answering the question lol
As to the subs/6*9's - what do you mean?

hey just my 2 bob but if got sub have 6.5's in rear, 6x9's add more mid low but you dont need that if you have a sub, bass can be over powering IMO with that set up
i like my music crystal clear and if ive had a longday at work on the rive home i like it loud but not so much that my butt cheeks chafe from the bass....
i find that with 6" - 6.5" ( with sub ) i get a clearer responce at higher volume levels while maintaining a decent amount of bass
and as for what im using atm
1x http://www.soundstream.com/AudioProducts/Subwoofers/r1-reference.htm ( 12" subwoofer )
1x http://www.soundstream.com/AudioProducts/Speakers_Tweeters/tarantula_spk.htm ( speakers are the SST6.5)
no front yet as im pondering if i should use 4" and cut into the plastic or just get some verada pods and put speakers in the front doors
as for why.. i done the rounds around several car audio shops ( including ricerbarn ) and found these to be pleasant enough also within y price range at the time and the guy who sold em to me was willing to do a quick install of them into my vechile ( as i was already had a amp installed and ready to go) to see how i liked them in y car.... the fact i bought them clearly states i liked them :D
