Throttle position sensor. Among other things it tells the ECU the throttle position which relates to the quality and timing of shift points. Cheers shaun

The main setting (from the repair manual) is the idle position, which operates a small microswitch inside the sensor and so shorts two of the pins on the connector. I dont have the manual with me so I can't tell you which ones. Anyone??? You will need an ohm-meter or multimeter switched to the ohms position to measure this, or some sort of test lead with a light. At the first movement of the throttle the microswitch opens, removes the short, and a variable voltage is sent to the ECU from another pin on the connector. This voltage is proportional to the amount of throttle opening. It determines when the ECU switches from closed loop mode (reading and adjusting according to the oxy sensor) at low to moderate throttle, to open loop mode at moderate to wide open throttle. Here the ecu switches to pre-determined fuel maps for high load conditions, usualy quite rich.
Hope this helps.

Here is the info from Gregoreys page 99 and 105. With throttle closed, connector pins 1 and 2 should be shorted. Resistance between pins 1 and 4 should be between 3,500 and 6,500 ohms (at all times). Resistance between pins 1 and 3 should increase from low (a few ohms) to high (a few thousand ohms) as you move the throttle from closed to fully open.
Hope this helps.
