Mitsu suggest that axels & props etc need to be replaced aswell as transmission/ecu for a Manuel conversion on a TJ, not sure about other models though...

Mate of mine has a TR and he did his Auto to Manual Transfer with himself and a mate in 4 hours, dunno what else he had to do apart from ECU stuff, but yeh he did it pretty easily, not sure about the TS's

what u need is a gearbox, clutch pedal, clutch components (both cylinders, pressureplate and drive plate) along with a flywheel.

thats basically it, take the auto out and whack all that in, along with the ecu. IM sure the rest of the components are the same, no reason why the autos have to be too much dissimilar to the manuals.

but im sure later on than my car (tn) they did as much as humany possible to make the car harder to work on.

As above...
The question would be on the ECU, wether or not the plugs are the same...
I would think that they would be right... but who is to say if the pinouts correspond.
I also believe that the CVs are of a differnt length.

Auto to manual conversions are more that possible with Magna models however I know for a fact that due to the floorpan design in TE on verada models that a manual conversion is near impossible without spending big bucks.

I was told this through my contact from MMAL, can anyone confirm this?

Im not sure about KR & KS verada's though...

I ASS U ME that it is everything needed for the conversion...
the box is around $800 for the 2.4 he said..... so I guess for the extra money you must be getting pedals cables sticks CVs mounts, crossmembers, boosters, hydrolics etc etc

That is a very reasonable price, almost tempted to do a manual conversion on the 2.4 and turbo the little bastard lol

You're kidding me? That's good prices. That's new engines from MMAL?

For that price I would say they would have to be second hand. Haydn are these motor's reconditioned?

Greetings All.

Ok, heres the thing, here is what i would like to do, swap my 6g72 engine with auto tranny for the 6g72 MIVEC DOHC with manual tranny.....now, would that be a fairly easy swap (swapping the lot.....) in my 1997 TE?

Cheers,

No one's done it but allegedly so. Probably needs an aftermarket piggyback or maybe system depending on how the ECU goes with not finding the auto.

i have done it it is pretty straight forward

parts needed

gearbox,
pedals,
shifter,
clutch master slave and dampner,
flywheel
clutch,
drive shafts,
cluch hydralic lines

electrical side is a headaches

i am running auto computer with half auto and manual wiring loom - computers wont change between manual and auto - so i have lost my rev limit of 6,800 to 6,000 which i have bought a wolf 3d to solve it is wired in but gotta get it tuned henced the car is still runing auto computer - but not as good as factory manual car and better than stock auto

the cost minus wolf was about $2,000 - price of reco auto

problems with manual

differentials are weak as piss - blown 2 hence new gearboxs which to find are as rare as rocking horse ****

have split my flywheel ...

and too much wheel spin......\

Costs a lot to repair

benefits of manual

change your own gears

exhaust has lost its drone

3rd gear chips

too much wheelspin......

Is it complicated or easier if your car is a FWD?

And is it roughly the same price?

There are complications too if you have ABS, TCL, cruise control, right?

My 2001 magna doesn't have traction control, ABS or cruise control.

Should make my manual conversion somewhat easier! :D

akko

well i don't have any of those luxury features :) ... i also know someone who works at mitsubishi who specializes in transmissions :) and he said it would take 2-3 days fitting, and atleast $6000 (using all new parts) and probably wouldn't be worth the time or effort...

his opinnion is that the manual magna transmissions are as weak as piss and that i'd be better off sticking with the Auto and saving the cash for other mods.

So, Rhino. Did the ECU like the fact that the auto transmission had gone missing? I mean, did it chuck a spack and sulk in to 'limp' mode?
