Hey guys, I debadged my car today, removing the Advance, V6, and two 3.5 stickers. On one of them now there is a colour difference between where the sticker was and the rest of the car. How do I fix this? I've kind of read that a cut and polish (or buff and polish) will fix it but I'm not too certain.

If not I'll just go get some cool chrome emblems from the Clearance house on monday!

Do I need to take it to a pro or is it reasonably easy? Don't want to ruin my paint job :D

Would be best if you do because if your paint work is in excellent condition, theres no point in spending money on a compound and polish and you end up wrecking it.
All you need to do it is a medium grade compound(best brand farecla but if not, just use septone which is a green label in supercheap auto with a ferrari picture on it) and then just a final glaze polish should be fine(meguires is good but if not, septone again)!
Good luck man but you should be fine, make sure the car is nice and clean first and use clean soft rags to do it aswell.Wax on!Wax off Daniel son!

and if that doesn't work - and it won't, because the paint under the badges are the original colour, and the rest of the car is sunbleached - just put the badges etc back on.

I used some simple elbow grease on my Little Red Rocket TR 1991 paint was starting to look faded, dull and orange in parts. I simply used Kitten Cut and polish took my time did a panel at a time and then waxed it.

The whole car looked awesome for a 1991 never cared for car. It wasn't a perfect job by any stretch of the imagination but it's worth doing yourself and trying to learn.

This would suit your debadging problem.....but you might end up cut and polishing the whole car

And sadly in a month you'll need to do it again. Red pigment sux. Very sensitive to UV radiation and dissintegrates (basically speaking). I've seen red paint on 1yr old cars already starting to lift the clearcoat as the red pigment had turned to dust.

As for the original post: soz dude, put your badges back on.

I agree that both red and black are hard colours to maintain. But with due care they can hold their lustre for years.

That's an 18 year old paint job that came up smick as..... after cut and polishing you need to give it full protection with wax. Then keep maintaining it ie washing and waxing. Cut and polishing only needs to be done once a year.

The red paint used by Mitsubishi in these early models is outstanding .... I've seen some really nice ones especially those that have owners that actually made the effort to maintain them....the biggest problem is the clear coat on plastic bars. Respraying a bar after 18 years in OZ conditions isn't too much to ask.

Im a spray painter by trade and have done it a million times and i know the results, thats why i put "if the paint is in excellent condition".If the paint is a bit faded or is a couple of years old, then you will see the outlines of the badges slightly depending on the colour.

haha thanks for the dire words...

I'm not too fussed about being badge-free, I picked up some better looking badges today so I'll chuck them over the top :)

Cut out the boot where the badge was (exact outline), place perspex/polycarb/abs etc behind it and wire in LEDs to come on with your parkers or brakes etc? There's a ricer hidden in each of us..... :shifty:

I was gonna do the same with my fairlane ages ago but they were the same colour ford oval badges but you had to wire them up and i was gonna have them joined to the parkers.
Cool mod if its not overdone!

I have a surplus of LEDs and plastic, and my boot needs a respray so whats the worst that could happen. :shifty:
