Hey guys,

Just curious, has anybody managed to fit 6.5" splits in their rear doors?

Thinking of something like an MDF baffle and instead of cutting out a hole in the door card just drilling some small holes or something.

Anybody done this before?

I think a 14 speaker setup would be pretty cool :) (3 sets of splits, 2 subs).

Car audio would be a good idea.

Anywho, dont think anyone has gone to the trouble, as most people who get serious about audio start to dismiss the need for rear speakers.

Fitting the speaker itself, not quite sure. Rip off the rear door trim and find out the shape of the metal itself.

As for the grill, your best bet would be to modify the stock front door grill, and mount that on the rear doors (the shape of the grill, might be an issue) from the looks of it, later model grills (with the high mount speakers) had a lot flatter grill***

***this is just from pictures, never seen them in person, so could well be wrong here.

I kept this out of car audio as it is specific to 3rd gen rear doors...I know alot of larger cars have speakers in the rear doors these days, and it would be great for a 6.2/6.1 or even 7.2/7.1 audio setup

Its perfectly possible. A few members have had rear doors speakers, I think its possible to fit upto 6.5" woofers. I wouldn't go putting splits in the rear doors though unless you kept the tweeter down low, I don't think it'd do much positive for staging either.

What has crossed my mind in the past is putting some mid-bass woofers (or small subs, whatever you prefer) in the rear doors as you can seal the door with dynamt to form a box of sorts and unlike my current setup with them on the parcel shelf, doesn't ruin it for anyone you ever have in the rear.

I have 6.5" splits in the front, 5" splits in the back,& 6by9's in the parcel shelf.
Also 2 13" subs in the boot sounds cool & hav'nt finished all the deadening yet.

Got any pics of inside the rear doors? Was there enough space to fit 6.5" comfortabley?

Why do you want speakers in the rear doors?
if you have 3 sets of splits and 2 subs that's a 8 speaker setup.
Or esle I'm going to going to strathy, buy some 7-way 7x10 rockwood's x 2 sets and say I have a 28 speaker system if you know what I mean.

also what gear are you using? and what amp? 4 speakers is more then ample.

I know i was confused by that too lol better off having higher quality front splits, who cares bout the back, u dont sit there and makes negligible difference to the sound stage given u already have rears. Waste of time IMO

In surround-sound terms, 3 sets of splits and 2 subs would be 6.2 (6 Speakers 2 Subs) - Add tweeters, thats 12.2 (6 Speakers, 6 Tweeters, 2 Subs) - or a 14 speaker setup! :)

Its not really for SQ or noise levels - It's for a surround sound system (using a 6-channel audio card on a carPC).

Powering them -

2x 4 Channels for speakers (2 Channels Front, 2 Channels Mid, 2 Channels rear, and later - 1 Channel Rear-centre, 1 channel Front-centre)
2x Monos or 1x large mono for subs

Just planning my tax cheque out :)

wtf, In "surround sound" terms a 5.1 setup can have 3 or 4 driver per 1 channel.
hell our surround sound system has off the top of my head has 11 woofers and about 8 tweeters, so then would you call it a 5.1 setup with 19 speakers :s
again in the rear doors they would firing into the back seat at closest range to your or the passengers head, I simply would not bother.
if you are going true 5.1 you need a centre channel and you dont have one of those yet.

leave home cinema to home.

why do you always come up with really good ways to waste money? first you want like 7+LCD's in the car and a dual battery setup with cap to run 2 basic subs (lol) and now this :P come on dude :P

Do u want to turn your car into a "show car" or something?

Turning a magna into a something like that is like rolling a turd in glitter, different not necessarily good tho. In general i mean, not having a go mate, just personally dont see the point as i really dont see it being a positive addition to a car sound system

speakers in the rear doors will work well as a "middle-channel" with this: http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Labs-SoundBlaster-Audigy-7-1-Channel/dp/B0002ZH6QY

Part of a plan I have for a carpc, 1500ish should cover what I need (Tax return ftw)

It's practical for day-to-day use, means I will have full surround sound when watching tv/movies.

How often do you currently watch movies in the car?

Also, rear speakers in 5.1 should only be used for rear noises, not a constant sound (or at a very low level)

but the rear 6x9s are still fine for the rear of a surround sound system... why add something that fires behind ur chair, and the sound will get muddied by the chair?

noone will be impressed! u may as well spend the cash getting $1k splits up front, and enjoy that alot more

*edit* ah so its a passenger system lol go buy a portable dvd player... ur driver shouldnt be watching as well, and it must suck listening to movies while driving! stuff that

6.1, unless you plan on having 2 separate channels for each sub..

I also agree with Paul on this being an 8 speaker setup not 14. You don't count each speaker in splits individually.

Sorry but I still think this is a massive waste of money.
In the end you'll pour $1000 into HID's and LED's and $4000 into 6 sets of speakers into each door and its still gonna look like a TE on the outside and inside and still go like an auto TE.

But hey.lol I know how to waste money too I guess, just I try to pass on my experience's and give a better point of view instead a "wow awesome idea, come on amc lets all agree" type of thing will start to happen.

Rhys is right I think, if your suba are hooked up to one output, its .1, not.2, as they would be seperate channels for L/R

Thats just ridiculous.

Either your drive while watching a movie, or you spend too much time without a licence.
