So I got hold of the 7" ebay screen.. shhh I got a great deal that was impossible to refuse (thx shinraa!) but I have no idea about the wiring. I don't necessarily intend to hook it up to a dvd headunit, maybe a low level car pc just for movies and music. So incase the wires are meant for a HU maybe there is a way to hook them up otherwise (not talking about the av input, thats easy).

So I have a black wire (earth?), a red wire (positive?) and a green and yellow wire.. What do these connect to?
TIA! :D

Just a quick guess
Red - Accessory 12v
Black - Ground
Green - Signal (From the head unit of device that makes the screen turn on)
Yellow - Constant 12v
These are pretty standard colors when it comes to car audio :)

green could also be hand brake
I'de say green is handbrake at a guess.
Black is ground/earth
Red is definately power
Yellow will probably be accessories.
Only wired a couple of these, and each model is slightly different.
Black/Red are definately earth and power.
1 should be a handbrake, and the other accessories.

Yellow would be constant not accesories, which makes red accesories

Oh of course, makes sense now. Red is accessories (tested), yellow constant. All sorted
Think I wrote my post somewhat misleading.
Red is power (acc)
yellow is the constant/memory.

Yup it does. Though wouldnt be 100% sure on green=signal?

I have this screen, green is signal but it is a ground switch.
Green needs to be grounded to make the screen come on, legally it should be attached to the switch on your handbrake so the screen only comes on when you are stationary.
Of course you can get around this by just grounding the green wire and your screen will work all the time but it is defectable, you may wish to set up a hidden 'switch' to change between legal wiring and illegal wiring setups just in case you get pulled over or have a going over

Some cleaver screens, such as those made by Pioneer, will require a switch as the screen will require the handbrake ( aka switch ) to be applied everytime the Acc is turned off. :D
Cool I get what you guys mean by signal.
I call it an earth lol
