Well, I kinda hoped it wouldn't come to this... but I will not be placing any more time, effort or money into my TR V6 "Cruiser".

It was supposed to be serviced this week to sort out the remaining engine issues, which I didn't think were too complex. However the outcome was worse than I thought- the engine has NO compression in the front bank, and i'm assuming the rear would be the same. Not to mention that something- we're not sure what- has leaked down out of the engine and all over the transmission. Suspension looks to also be rooted.

Hell, my folks TR 2.6 is in better shape. That's saying something.

So plans for the future are to sell off the car to a wrecker, on their terms. I don't care what I get for it, I just want the damn thing gone.

What grinds my gears though has to be the fact that I had a lot riding on the success of this car. I'm a first year apprentice, so i'm generally earning **** all. I already had most of the parts needed to repair it, sans the cylinder heads. Now that it's been written off, i'm left with TR V6 parts, no car and no cash (to buy another car with).

Ah well... it was fun while it lasted, but it'll be rough seas ahead. :doubt:

Time to move on to something better.

Things happen for a good reason. Even though it may be an inconvenience to you now, in a few months time, you'll realise why it happened.

The problem is that it's sitting on the uncle's lawn, so it needs to be gone pretty quick. I don't really have the time to part it out anymore.

The Verada interior was exactly that- 'Rada seats, carpet, dash clock, centre console, lights and a Ralliart Steering Wheel (although not a Verada part, it was still an interior mod). The Diamante Kit is down to a front bar. It's a standard Series 1 Mitsubishi Diamante front bar, with foggies and all the wiring required to connect it- however it's badly in need of repainting. I also had a grille that I thought went with it, but was actually from an NZ Mitsubishi Sigma.

Timing Belt snapped, few bent valves. Muffler has been removed, will need another one. Apparently it's also been lowered to an illegal height (despite being told it was "lowest legal", I had doubts and they've been pretty much confirmed).

Indeed mate... although "a few months time" is a bit optimistic. :P I'd be surprised if I had the cash before mid year, but after seems a bit more reasonable. $1400 or so I could handle, but if I was scraping together $3500+ for a third gen, and then more for another make or model altogether... I wouldn't be back behind the wheel for a loooong time.

Alright... well before this turns into a For Sale thread, i'll just clarify a few things. If there's genuine interest in quite a few pieces though, i'll open a thread in the For Sale forum.

Ralliart wheel will probably be staying, since the chances of my next car being a Mitsubishi Magna or Verada are otherwise very likely.

Lowered suspension, i'm not really sure about selling, since the mechanics are pretty certain the setup is illegal and possibly unsafe. I wouldn't really want to risk any other members rides or lives with a potentially dangerous suspension setup.

Diamante bar.. 50/50 on that one. If I get a car with colour coded bumpers or an already decent looking bar, it'll be sold.

Front and rear seats are from a KR Verada, but are otherwise a bit... well see for yourself. If they match your existing ones, I suppose they would be fine. If you were looking to upgrade from existing seats though, you may or may not want these. (Please note this is the *most recent* photo, hence lack of Ralliart wheel, clock. Woodgrain was never fitted)

http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/1816/img0617mxv.jpg

I also have a complete set of much nicer KS Verada seats, not fitted to a car, but i'll work those out separately since they aren't actually from the TR V6, they're from a different car altogether. I had planned to fit these to my next car, depending on the condition of the seats in that car (whatever year it may be).

Front door seals, I can't clarify the condition of. They seal, but probably aren't the best seals out there either.

[TUFFTR], to get some heads from a wrecker (or reco the existing ones) was the original plan, but considering that the engine is only a single fault in the car, with several thousand $$$ of other faults around it, I had to really think about whether it was worth it. When I can pick up a Second Gen Verada Xi with full service history, RWC and a full warranty for $2000, it's a much better deal than $2000 to repair this old one.

Just keep in mind (while I have taken some parts off it already) this car is sitting on my Uncle's front lawn, and he's been waiting to move it, so it needs to go pretty damn quickly one way or another. This does restrict me in stripping it for parts.

16-03-2009, 07:36 PM
the woodgrain dash, is it just the top bar that goes across the entire dash? or is it the middle section that is capable of holding a double DIN cd player?
any pictures of that? run out with a camera or something :D
im quite interested in that, also possibly the centre console and door cards, considering mine are all scratched from previous owners dogs. :(

Cruiser
16-03-2009, 07:43 PM
It doesn't have woodgrain. lol When I fitted some other trim I wasn't too keen on the woodgrain look (of course, now I am and wish i'd taken that too), I just have the blue seats, dash, door trim and centre console from a wreckers KR Xi- the rest is executive spec.

This is confusing me as much as it is everyone else, since i've already taken some pieces for another Magna, and moved some pieces from the other Magna to this one... so it's 50/50 trim and components, and I couldn't remember exactly what bit went where. A fair bit of what was in my sig has also been taken out, stored away or moved across.

I had hoped to get rid of the car as a single unit, since really the trim and various other pieces that I don't actually intend to keep probably isn't all that much different from the same kind you can find in the cheap section of your local wreckers. What I did intend to keep would be sold off after the car is gone, and some would be swapped onto the next car.

The ones that are in the car? I suppose because they're relatively easy to get out it wouldn't be too much of an issue to remove them but only if they're up to scratch- don't want crappy seats to replace your existing ones after all. :P

It was fitted to a charcoal grey car, but the bar itself was originally gloss black... which faded to matte black... which faded to a while/black/grey patchy looking thing.

Registering high interest in the diamante front bar (obviously with respect to other people that have already registered interest) and possibly the ks verada seats. In SA aswell so can pick up.

Is a bit of a shame... ah well, life goes on.

The 2.6L Magna, if I may add, will also be leaving here shortly for a new home. I was surprised to see someone willing to take it on, but hey, if it's going to a good home instead of a wrecking yard then i'm still pleased.

Aiming for a Second Gen Verada now. KS EI or XI seems to be the general advice from everyone around here, but i'm by no means ruling out the KR's either. I've seen some very hot deals on KR Veradas in a couple of places, in absolute schmick condition with all the little extras (better seats, cruise, climate, power windows and more), so i'll be keeping a sharp eye on those.

I took one for a test drive today... I have to say it, i'm in love. lol A KR Ei Verada 1991. The engine, transmission, body, paintwork, interior, suspension and exhaust (pretty much the entire car) is in pristine condition, as if it's just rolled off the production line at Tonsley Park. Full service history, has only ever been driven lightly in its life.

If it's still there on Friday morning (chances are it will be, it had cob webs from the bumper to the road so it clearly hasn't been test driven in a while) i'll buy it on the spot. Just needs the mechanic out before then to fix the horn.

Fingers crossed that I can soon join the ranks of the SA Veradas... here's hoping.

Awesome!!!!
KR's look mad, they are usually factory SLAMMED (after the bags crap themselves :D) so that'll be sweet, does it have the sunroof mate? how many clicks on it?

Cruiser
18-03-2009, 06:45 PM
No sunroof on this one, but i'm not fussed about that. 201800 or so on the odometer, which did have me concerned as the timing belt is usually due for replacement around this point. May need to have a mechanic suss it out. It's going for $2000, which is an absolute steal for a car of this class- but it also means I may return on Friday morning and find it already gone.

So here's hoping for the best, and that it holds out until then!

I did. $2000 is his base price. It's down from $2750, going for $2200, and he said he could sell for $2000, but no lower.

I think it was driven down from Melbourne to Adelaide prior to being placed in the yard (has Bursons & NRMA service stickers on it) and didn't skip a beat. I wouldn't be surprised if the timing belt was replaced prior to the trip, considering all the belts seemed to be like new and in great condition. Also comes with a new battery (Century, was replaced in mid-2008).

To me, for what i'm getting, the price seems fair. Cash goes into the account on Friday morning which is the only reason I didn't buy it today.

I think it's ours... just phoned the car yard, it's still there and he said he was willing to hold it until tomorrow. :D

I'll grab the build number from it possibly Saturday, since that's when we intend to pick it up.

Chances are this means i'll have a pretty damn good set of 2G Verada seats for sale, provided all goes well. This car already has a decent set of seats in it.

Congrats - I'll bet this is a happy day, then?

I always liked the looks of 2nd Gens, and tho I'm in TJ's now - I STILL think 2nd Gens are a sweetly-styled machine. We had several 1st Gens, then a KS 'Rada, and now 3 TJ's. Our KS is down (heads off) but not abandoned yet!! Does the KR have climate, out of interest?
