Hey guys,

I have been thinking of lowering my car for a while. I have rung up Ian Diffen and they can lower my car for $1000 including springs, new shocks and camber kit. However my insurance company will only allow me to lower the car up to 30mm and they also said something about leaving 100mm clearance space? Isnt 35-40mm at the front and 25-30mm at the back standard when lowering? What should I do? Is 30mm enough for lowering?

Cheers

yeah most insurance companys only allow you to go 30mm lower or to have 2/3 of the suspension travel remaining
if you get some kings/lovells low then it should lower your car enough
the flares on your car make it look lower too
what insurance company are you with? and what springs and shocks are you getting?
does it include an alignment?

2/3rds suspension travel is actually a legal requirement - not just specific to insurance.

The legal requirement is that no part of your car has less than 100mm of clearance with the ground (even when loaded).

30mm isn't much. I replaced my standard VR-X springs with King Lows and the spring installer recorded a 39mm drop. It's low, but not super low. If you wanted to please your insurance company, you'd need to install King Low SPs or Lovell Lows (both of which drop around the 20-30mm mark).

What brand shocks did you get quoted? KYBs are a common choice here, but I was quoted $150 more for them compared with Monroe GTs.

$1000 is a pretty fair price if you include the camber kit. It's not ultra-cheap, but if you like the installer, I'd stick with it.

Im with SGIO. I just dont want to lower it 30mm and you cant really tell. coz it would be a bit of a waste of money. Im not fussed about the springs or shocks. But im guessing from what he quoted, it would be the cheapest ones as he didnt state what the springs or shocks were. And yes the price includes an allignment.

Just Car (http://www.justcarinsurance.com.au/) is another to consider. They too will allow any modification as long as it's legal. They're excellent value too.
