Well I just had my car serviced today.
Anyway, as I picked up my car from the service place, I read on a sign that they installed pedders springs. So I asked the guy if they could install my King lows, and he said he could - for $400
This seems verrryyy steep to me. -Especially after I just paid them $940 for a service. What do you guys think?

Err.. I got quoted 450 for shocks and springs installed (supplied by me) and a wheel alignment, and I wasn't happy with that :P
Rule of thumb is $50 per wheel is a decent price.

not in WA it isnt :P
you'll be lucky to find it THAT cheap
Well I paid $380 when mine were done (I supplied the rears, bought the fronts off them) so taking out $150 for the fronts, gives a price of $57.50 per wheel. That was at Jax in Liverpool.

Ok I got some more quotes today.
Midas - $400
'Total' (Next to westfield car audio) - $300
Im now thinking maybe i should buy some new shocks before I get my springs installed. This will save me having to pay the $400 again for installation...

Just wondering how much you guys are paying for these kings, I shopped around for a while and eventually got them for $150 a set. I had been quoted $240 a set by some places. Can anyone get them cheaper? If so where?

you won't find kings any cheaper than $120 a pair
as for installation for the OP, all i can suggest is try calling a few different places and see what they say.

150 for 4? What brand and where? I assume where talking about kings and the like and not some dirty as povo brand
I find it hard to believe you would get them for 150, trade price is usually around 10-20 above cost

Why dont you guys spend $200 on a 1/2" socket set and a set of spring compressors and do it yourself?!
Also remember, is the price including a wheel alignment? Cause if not, your going to need to fork out MINIMUM another $50 to do a wheel alignment, always check this when getting springs installed.

Cheers for the tips Mal,
Obviously im not as mechanical minded as you are. :D hence i don't have any equipment.
It is a crucial part of the car. I prefer to have it done professionally instead of me risking screwing my car up and dying in a car accident :S
If i could find a cheap place to get it done without getting into any trouble, that would be great :D

Its not rocket science to work out. 6 bolts to take strut out of the car, compress the spring, take it out, uncompress. compress new spring, and install, then install the strut again.
like as far as mechanical jobs go, suspension is pretty easy. actually it's very easy. no fluids, no bleeding, just nuts and bolts
Well id say its pritty dangerous regardless . Even mechanics say its a risky job the springs have so much compression in them they can fling out and smash your head off. U need a really good press and the best spring compressors to do it. And u have to line the spring up right or youll get a knocking sound and youll have to do it again.

Walking out onto the road is dangerous, hell I could be struck by lightning.
Of course they can come out and "smash your head off" but really, if your STUPID ENOUGH to be looking OVER THE TOP of the strut while your taking the spring off under load, you deserve to have your head cut off.
I go down the back of the yard and do it in a space where IF there is any compression left it will fling out. in the 20+ springs I've done this year the only ones that remain under a tiny bit of tension are stock front springs. I keep my foot on the side of the side of the spring while i undo the top plate on the floor and it throws back the strut maybe a foot....nothing dangerous
Also, undo the top bolt (19mm?!) with a rattle gun a few turns. You want it at the end of the thread. if you don't, when there is not pressure on the top plate, since it's a nyloc nut, you'll just spin the shaft. so after there is no tension (spring compressed) you can undo it no worries.
Also have to watch to make sure the compressor doesnt slide down the spring. had this happen a few times but if you take it nice and slow you'll spot this as it starts and fix it right up
Don't need a press...
And yeah you need to line the spring up...again it's not rocket science to align it all.
Gee if I paid someone to change springs everytime I've done it I'd be down $1000. $50 set of compressors and a good impact gun = saved hundreds and hundreds of dollars and now I have another skill....
I thought if you work on 100 bucks per hour. If your suppling the springs. Shit even if it took them 2 hours.
I think that 400 is way to steep.
