either the circuit that control the cruise is buggered or maybe the switch isnt sending the signal accross to the computer. my cruise control hasnt played up yet so i could not tell you a definate problem

So the best bet is to take to a cruise control specialist ?

why do you need to press the button for? I just use the hand leaver swtich thing on the right of the steer wheel, just pull it down when u reached the speed you wanna cruise at then let go and it stays at that speed.

The button that is next to the dimmer switch needs to be pushed to activate the cruise,

you have to be more detailed is it the cruise control switch light that goes on and off ? or you push that and it says on then you go to operate cruise then cruise light in the instrument cluster comes on then goes off , if you have a manual you cant touch the brake or clutch pedal because this will cancel cruise control , if you have a auto you cannot touch the brake pedal because it will cancel cruise , other things it pedal adjustment and the switch's that are on the pedal's they are probably set to close to the pedals and instantly trigger. so check the pedal adjustment and check that the switch's are functional or just take it to Mitsubishi to check but they will charge alot so just check it all yourself and let us know how you go.

the red light in the button on the dash comes on. but when you go to set the speed nuthin happens. I have tested both the brake and clutch pedal switches. so the cruise light in the instrument panel does not come on at all. any ideas??

if you have checked both the switch's for continuety in both positions and when the pedal ingauges then next step i guess would be to check the switch to the steering wheel , i beleive the cruise control computer is near the ECU or part of it in the centre console just forward of the radio to the left , if you dont already own a gregory's magna manual get one there $50 and are great for fixing problems like this since they have all the wiring diagrams in them.

yep got me one of those too. they are great. I have already took my car to mitsubishi and they told me it was the switch on the brake but it tests fine. would you guys suggest going to a auto lecky and gettin them to check it out. do you know how the magna sensors speed does it run off the gearbox or speedo??

Naaa autoelectritions charge a bundle and they probably dont know anything about it they just poke around to see what they can find they wanted $450 to do some work on my magna i thought stuff that i did the work in 1 day myself for free

So you took it to Mitsubishi and they couldnt find a problem ?

hmmm i cant remember and im not walking to the garage now in the rain but i think the cruise control switch ( both clutch and brake ) and the brake light switch are both independant but if mitsubishi cant find or cant be bothered to find the problem that is worrysome

Yeh, clutch and brake switch are seperate. There are two switches built into the brake switch assembly, one for brake lights circuit and and one for the release coil in the electric vacuum pump. There should be no continuity when foot off the brake and continuity when foot on the brake for both. Speed signal is taken from speed sensor on gearbox.
Don't want to sound patronising...but have you checked all fuses?
There are a few fuses for this circuit.
Have you been mucking around in the engine bay and left/knocked the connector of the electric vacuum pump.
If none of these, it starts to get a bit technical and i'd advise taking it to a dealer
