Was just about to post this up myself when i saw this post.

I had a look today and not sure that you can use a pod filter on a first gen at all becuase of the location of the air sensor.

Has anyone used a pod filter on a first gen with EFI ?

If so, how was it done? how does it sound? how does it perform? how is the fuel economy - much worse ?

its been done but isnt usually reccomended. the general opinion on here is that it isnt really an improvement at all due to the wierd style of intake on the 1gs :P but some people im sure have good things to say about them on 1gs.

where show me these ppl cos there ain't any. if you tryed it then you would see. ur better going for the
kandn panel filter which is a direct replacement for the paper one.

tryed the pod and my tp hated it. for some reason the pod filter don't mix well with the vortexc (sp?) afm. but if you had a hot wire afm (like ford i think) then they seems to work fine. you see our afm swirls the air like a vortex and takes a reading off that but the pod seems to disturb the swirling air thus not helping the way the car runs.

opp i meant to say oval filter. yea i was wrong again. like pete said the non swirling air goes through that honeycomb plasic (not sure what it's called) inside the afm.

well from someone who has a rather heavy modded 1st gen id say only use the k&n replacement oval filter not sure how you would go using a panel one, our afm requirse non rotating air to get a good reading, pods etc = bad, you can change alot of things on the astron for more go but the afm you gotta treat with some respect
