Hey guys.

What is the size for the sump plug on a TE V6? I just read here now that the socket size is 24mm but what about the rest of it? I went to two different places earlier today and neither of them could tell me what size it is  One just said.. "Mate.. unless it's a Toyota I just couldn't tell ya".. like WTF? lol

I changed the oil eventually..

The O-ring was kaput. I went back to the two places.. neither had suitable parts.. I asked one if I could use a washer and they said 'NO it will LEAK!'. So I went to this bearings place.. proffesionals if you get what I mean and the guy goes 'How about a washer?' and I said 'Won't that leak?' and he said 'How about a washer?' and walked over.. picked up two washers, chucked em on and said 'That'll be 50c mate'.. lol.. and I was thinking 'Okay.. you know what's goin on'.. I mean.. I'd trust some guy who supplies washers and bearings compared to some person in a chain auto parts store.. hmm.

Then.. I bought a filter wrench thing to get the filter off but it was tooo big.. ****. So I went back and swapped/paid extra for a stupid strap one, which I proceded to break! Then I went for the good old 'screw driver through the filter' and it came off straight away.. and that's what I was going to do in the first place... only went for a wrench thing cause my mate said to.

Then I noticed oil leaking cause I didn't do the sump plug up enough.. which I fixed.

Oil all over the joint which I'd spilt earlier.. but some laundry detergent and water.. and you can hardly tell and for once my mum couldn't give a crap.. :)

Anyway.. next time will be a LOT simpler :)

15/16 also fits  ... I did mine yesterday also.
Are all magna sump plugs so thin & resessed into the sump? Boy did I have the s*#ts after finding out my trusty shifter wouldn't do the job & spending 1/2 hr tryin to find the right ring spanner!

I always use washers (those ones that look like they are made from gasket matirial) and use a new one after every oil change, got a pack of 10 for $1.50, they have never leaked on me :D

WTF are you doing trying to take your sump plug off with a shifter? I think you're trying to make that thing as round as you can.

I saw a sweet little device in this issue of SPEED magazine. Its a valve that replaces your sump plug. All you just to do is push a leaver and it open the valve allowing the oil to drain out. This sounds like a great little gizmo as no more messy oil drains :D

They go for about $49 so I think when I get my next ride i'll invest in one :D

I will try and scan the image in when i get home....

what do you call it? a Sump Tap?

Using a Screw driver to remove oil filter is a scary thought, how would you repair dents on the filter mounting surface?

Yes a sump tap would be the most accurate was to describe it lol. You can even hook a hose up to it. Hook the hose up, place the end in a suitable container turn the tap and bingo bango the easiest oil change in history. Definatly getting one for myself as I do oil changes ever 7500kms. Yes i know im a sad man but i can't help it :P

As for using a screw driver to remove the filter, you won't damage your filter mounting assembly but its bloody messy way of doing it...

By the looks of the Autospeed catalog, they only make them for 2001 and on Pajeros (and you need some adapter) but seeing as alot of Pajeros run the 6G72 and 6G74s, and considering they might have the same sumps as magnas, the valves should fit on the Magnas no probs.....with that adapter they mention, but don't show

You just hammer the screw driver through the bottom end (say lower 3 cm) the filter horizontally.. in one end and out the other. Then you can turn the screw driver slowly and the filter will come undone. The only thing to be weary of, is ripping the filter which would be a pain. Surprisingly, I didn't get very dirty and didn't make much mess but my engine is very clean anyway.

I'd only be worried about clearance.. I can just imagine ripping a tap straight off after driving over a rock or something... not that I drive over rocks but still :)
