i've got a 1993 KR Verada with a 3.0L 6G72 SOHC 12 Valve V6 engine (automatic transmission)

My verada's gasquette is broken, the mechanic says it will be about $1500 to fix....and at the same time to buy a new engine and put it in it will also be around the same
what should i do?? Is the quote right?? what other options do i have??

i'd like to thank you in advance for the help given

cheers

head gasket?

Welcome to the forums..Your choice man. If the car's done a fair few kms and things are wearing out, you could do away with the KR - $1500 could get you a new TR/TS as a replacement..myself, i did a head last year and just got it repaired - but the rest of the car's in good nick and i couldnt afford a new one. Financial situation etc are usually the factors to consider.

Ruddbucks can pay for most of it! Assuming you'll be getting a $900 payment. The quote sounds about right, if it is a head gasket you are talking about..i had a reco head done for $1200.

it depends how mechanically minded you are. I got my head reconditioned, with a valve grind and polish for under $500. That was because all I did was take the head out of my car, give it to him, and let him do the work... Then put it all back on myself. Saved a lot of labour costs.
Or you could even get one froma wreckers and put it on yourself... It depends on your knowledge really. It isn't an overly difficult job to take the head off but I know alot of people prefer to get things done professionally first time.

Easy to take off, not always so easy to put back on.

Reco motor will be about the same price, shop around for quotes.

Mate, I think you need to contact me and let me give you a second opinion first and even if the had gasket is gone I am sure I could easilly do both heads for around that price let alone a single head

1500.00 is what i was qouted for a head gasket replacement in my old tm... it was the final straw for that car... i sold it for 1200.00 and bought my first 2nd gen ( a tr) for 700.00

man i still hate that damn tm gave me so many issues

You can download the workshop manual off the forum somewhere, i can't remember where but lol
I'm sure a member will post up a link for it, its a pdf version of the workshop manual the Mitsubishi mechanics use.

With these I would suggest against doing it yourself if you have not done these before, they can be very touchy when they blow and it is vital to try and determine which head has the blown gasket and for that matter which pot also so you can look for cracks etc.

I have pm'd you my number
