99% of the ppl here will tell you not to do it.. because they arn't 'legall' etc etc.. yet everyone seems to run darker than legal tint.. hipocrites.. anyway..

I've fitted a set in my 1 peice polycarb parra's in my KJ, a mate had some in his 04 TL, and have fitted some to an IS200.. all polycarb lenses.. none ever have problems..

so you most certailey CAN do it.. so yeh.. :) happy HID'ing..

they are quite esay to install. but as Matty.C said many people on here have different opinions towadrs them because they are an illegal mod and the way they dispurse light. i reckon in the end its up2 wether u want to put them in or not. I've had them in my 97TF with paras and i think they worked a treat. i didnt have any issues with the lights at all...

i was under the impression that u could only have HID's if your headlight cover was glass....

I bought the Philips H7 kit however need to get a relay kit installed first. The HID appear to turn off within 60sec, as the wire is getting quite hot. lol

But yeah, get Philips, they are german made. The ballast anyways.

Hi I've a set of H4 6000k Hids' for my TH low beam but when I switch to high beam with OEM bulb the HID switches OFF.

Try them with one OEM bulb in the H4 which is not connected as HID used just one side for the relay to switch on they work together.

Any ideas!!!

Is the HID dual filament? H4 is dual filament, 60/55w so pretty sure one filament is meant as a highbeam filament...so that'll probably be why....

I have just a one Filament on the HID. So any idea how I could bypass that issue to get them to work?

So is there anyone out there, that actually uses a HID kit out there in their parra's, who installed it themselves, and have NO issues at all with the bulb cover in the headlight?

I want to know what they have done or how long their bulb is. My philips bulbs appear to be too close to the bulb cover which causes the return wire to spark across onto the cover. Hence why my HID's turned off. The ballast is actually screwed now :(

What have others done? Come on peeps. Someone out there must have a clue :)

Ive had my cheapo hong kong HID's in my parras for like 6months now with no issues, the return wire just touches the lense i think but doesn't affect the operation.

One of my HID's in my spotties have stopped working how ever, haven't checked yet whether its the ballast or the globe.

Now i think of it im not 100% sure if it was the spotties that felt like it made contact with the lense or the parras.....or both.

HIDs and Heat ? WTF? HID bulbs run cool - higher wattage halogen bulbs will run hotter than standard wattage bulbs, but HID bulbs use ballasts and transformers to run the Xenon (not halogen) lights with 20,000V or somerthing like that. Do you have the two confused?

I've had a cheap ($180) set of HIDs since Oct 2006 on my wife's car. It's lenses are plastic and with the factory H3C bulbs ($20 each at Repco) the lens heats up to 70C.
With the 35?W HIDs, the lens was closer to 50C. Measurements made using an infrared thermometer both straight in and at an angle, with the lights left on for over 5minutes, as per the attached pic.

One of the HID bulbs blew just recently and I picked up a pair of replacements for $30 posted (HK seller on Ebay)!
Those $20 standard bulbs were blowing one every 6 months, so I've spent $210, saved $120 = net cost of $90 and have much better light output.
Luckily, the Sera was one of the early vehicles with projector headlights, so retrofitting HIDs into it isn't as bad as some cars. It does still have a couple of spots of light splashing out where it shouldn't :(

i've done mine myself.. surley you have seen me getting around the algester shops (where your always parked) and around s/bank, and parkinson (where i live)... i always see you! lol...

i honestly didn't have any problem.. i'm not sure what you mean buy bulb cover though.. mine i just left with the rubber jacket thing and the wires just run through that.. the past 2 years have not yeilded any issues what so ever.. no water or condensation in the headlights (which i was kinda expecting) so i just left it like that..

your more than welcome to pop round some time and have a look..

Yeah, I have seen you around a bit. Not lately though since I moved now to Calamvale. But hey, I might have to take you up on that offer if you dont mind.

I think the HID's with the covers are for H4s, where the cover moves for hi and low beam
