Not sure if you are intending to change it...but I had some trouble taking it off because I did not know about the 'special tool' to remove the filter. I broke the locking clip inside than had to go around to 3 shops to try to find it..(it was a ****** nightmare). Sorry to hijack th thread but I would hate to see it happen to another person.

No special tool is required. It's just a PITA to get out sometimes.
The little piece you you broke is normally replaced with the new filter. Ryco supply a new one with the Filter that is at least.

While the tool is not needed, if you spend the 3 bucks they cost, the job will take you 2 minutes v's the normal 30 minutes of swearing and pouring fuel all over yourself

Dats the one, I laughed when I was first shown this tool as I had modified a pair of long nose pliers that did the job, used this once and fell in love, remove pressure, clip on, push line forward and back straight off

For me it was the best $8 (yeah I know I got ripped off) I've ever spent. It actually took me over 2 hours to change the #### filter the first time.....2 min the second time.

Is the connector on the fuel filter something like the connector for the fuel line to the fuel-tank pick-up??
I had hell job trying to swap-out a fuel-sender and suspect that indistinct pink plastic thing might have made disconnecting the fuel line heaps easier.
Add me to list who'd love to know what they call this thing - $3- to $8- might be cheap for my sanity in case I'm tempted to change the filter!!

Hey all, what is this tool that people need to remove this clip? I was under the car and couldn't figure out how to get that clip off, then it started to rain so I gave up and decided to search on here (as all good people should do!!)
There are no pics of what the tool is. Can I go into Repco, Burson's, Supercheap etc and get one? Or does somebody have a pic of the said modified pliers (I'm a boilermaker, I have millions of the things!) so I can mutilate a pair of mine to do the job?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers, Greg.

Oh, also, how do you relieve the fuel pressure in the lines before changing filters? I don't want to get covered in fuel!

I'm sure pulling the fuel pump fuse and running the car for a few seconds should clear the lines, or you could undo the fuel filler cap.
To be honest i've just undone it and copped a bit of fuel.

There is no fuel pump fuse. Had a look tonight and was also on the phone to a Mitsubishi mechanic and there is only an ECU fuse, no fuel system fuse. If you think I'm wrong, please post a pic of which fuse to pull. I'd love to be proven wrong with this!
And manning up?? *lol* No issues there fella's! Got the 3rd kid on the way! :)
Cheers, Greg.

i had more trouble gettin the line undone than the clip release, i figured id try to see how hard it was to remove as it was talked up a bit here, well it was much easyer than expected and i got the shower for it, squease the clip and push toward the filter and release in a fast action gets it off, as in you maintain presure on the clip and then push toward the filter then toward the back of the car

True there Nemesis, a little bit of fuel shouldn't be an issue! I use E10 so I might even get drunk off it!! *lol*
Anybody got pics of the clip removal tool? Or a name so I can/search for one?
Cheers, Greg.
