Hey,

i have a '97 tf, 3ltr 5 speed, standard everything...

it has issues tho, sometimes it wont start, mostly its just when the engine is hot, but its happened sometimes when its cold too. pretty much, when i turn the key it turns over but it wont start, kinda like there's no fuel getting up there. it also tends to blow one of the fuses, a 20 amp fuse for the computer i think.
this car has been to so many mechanics and no one can tell me whats wrong or fix it.
ive replaced the fuel pump,
crank angle sensor
computer
and apparantly there is a common problem where wires running beside the ignition barrel get too hot and melt and then short out, so ive had them rewired away from the ignition.

just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem and what they did to fix it

or if there's anyone who might be able to give some advice.

Thanks

blowing a fuse is quite a big electrical problem, possibly a shorting issue. Are you sure its the ECU one

Just two words: PM MadMagna. (Ok, so that's one acronym and one compund username). But if you want a good bloke who really knows his beans, get in-touch.

But as cybermonkey said, That sounds like a shorting issue, you'll basically need to find out what circuit that is (the 20A one) and start backtracking wires until you find the one that is shorting.

i've taken it to a few different auto elecs to see what was going on, to see if there was anything shorting out. they couldn't find anything wrong with any of the wiring :( not sure exactly what the fuse is thats blowing, its number 15 tho in the fuse box.

no problems with the engine light coming on.

I've actually had a problem in the last week similar to yours. First time I started car then it turned itself off, tried to start it again but it just continued to kick until I gave it some pedal and it kicked over.

Then the other day at I was at train lights. Coal train was passing so I turned the car off but once it was I gone I tried to start it and agian the car just continued to kick. I stopped and tried to start it again and then it kicked over.

Weird problem, other than that the car is fine besides the usual cold lifters noise in the morning. Anyone have any solutions?

if you want to go to an Auto Elec to get it looked at go to Cherry Auto Elecs, Gladstone Rd Dandenong. Just off Princes Hwy. Best Auto Elec, i've ever dealt with, good bloke, knows his stuff and is very cheap.
