Hi All,
Due to popular demand. I have decided to post the method of modifying the 2nd gen rear
lights. Could the admins make this a sticky or put it into a tech notes area.
1. If you do not have a TR Magna Elite, KR Verada v6xi or KS Verada v6ei/v6xi then get a
boot lid garnish and possibly the actual boot lid from the above mentioned cars and fit it to
your car.
2. Go to a mitsu wrecker and get four double filament bulb holders. These hold dual filament
bulbs (usually 5/21 watt globes, 5w for night light and 21w for brake light). Also buy four
dual filament bulbs.
3. We'll first convert the inner night light to a brake/night light. See attached drawing
showing what I mean by the inner night light. Remove the cover of the rear light assembly,
you'll notice that it has four bulb holders, 3 are single filament (indicator, reverse and inner
night light. The top outer corner one is the dual filament bulb holder for brake and night light
as standard. Remove the single filament bulb holder for the inner night light and replace it
with a dual one. Wire up the night light to the existing line and splice the brake light line into
the brake light line of the existing night/brake light bulb holder. Fit in a dual filament bulb and
its done.
4. second, we'll fit a dual filament bulb holder to the boot lid light housing. Unscrew the
black plastic cover and screw on a dual filament holder onto the inside of the cover and fit
in a dual filament bulb. Run 3 wires (ground, night light and brake light) from each respective
corner light assembly to the boot lid light housing and connect one end to the new bulb
holder and splice the other end to one of the brake/night holders.
And thats it.
